Job Description

Sports Academy Director The Process Sports AcademyFull-Time | Leadership Role Position Overview The Process Sports Academy is seeking a highly motivated, growth-minded, and entrepreneurial Sports Academy Director to help build and lead a premier athlete development academy focused primarily on basketball and volleyball. This is a startup leadership role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has the agility to build systems, culture, and programming from the ground up. The Sports Academy Director will oversee athlete development, competitive programming, trainer recruitment, scheduling, sponsorship development, and day-to-day academy operations. This role requires someone who can combine sports performance expertise, leadership, business development, relationship building, and operational execution. Our mission is to develop athletes not only in skill and performance, but also in discipline, character, confidence, leadership, and competitive mindset. Key Responsibilities Program Development & Athlete Training Develop and oversee training programs for basketball and volleyball athletes Organize and manage: Small group training Personal / one-on-one training Team development sessions Skills clinics Seasonal camps Build progressive development systems for beginner, intermediate, and elite athletes Ensure training emphasizes fundamentals, athletic performance, confidence, discipline, and competitive growth Competitive Leagues & Camps Develop and oversee competitive league programming Plan and execute tournaments, showcase events, and seasonal competitions Organize youth camps, skill clinics, and academy-hosted special events Create league structures that encourage athlete development, competition, and academy retention Coordinate staffing, scheduling, and event logistics for leagues, camps, and competitions Help build signature academy events that strengthen brand recognition and community engagement Personal Training & Player Development Evaluate athletes and identify strengths and areas for improvement Build customized player development plans Oversee specialized skill training including: Shooting Ball handling Agility Footwork Speed & quickness Vertical performance Sport-specific movement Technology & Performance Tools Utilize athlete development tools and technology to improve performance Experience with Dr. Dish or similar basketball training systems preferred Use measurable performance data to track athlete progress and outcomes Trainer Recruitment & Leadership Recruit, interview, hire, and retain qualified trainers and coaches Build a strong culture of coaching excellence Manage trainer scheduling and staffing Provide leadership, accountability, mentorship, and ongoing development for coaches Scheduling & Operations Oversee daily academy operations including: Training schedules Facility usage Camp schedules League schedules Staff schedules Help build scalable systems and processes for long-term growth Ensure a high-quality athlete and customer experience Sponsorships & Strategic Partnerships Identify and secure sponsorship opportunities Build partnerships with: Local businesses Schools Sports organizations Community leaders Help grow academy visibility and community influence Support long-term revenue growth through strategic partnerships Business Growth & Revenue Awareness Support academy growth through memberships, camps, leagues, and personal training Collaborate with ownership on growth strategy and long-term sustainability Maintain awareness of staffing efficiency and revenue opportunities Make decisions with long-term academy success in mind Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is more than a coach—they are a builder, leader, motivator, recruiter, and culture creator.
They should possess:
Strong basketball and/or volleyball knowledge Experience in athlete development and personal training Strong leadership presence Excellent communication skills High emotional intelligence Ability to build trust with athletes, parents, trainers, and partners Strong organizational and scheduling skills Ability to multitask under pressure Agility in a startup environment Self-starter mentality with strong initiative Problem-solving mindset Strong recruiting ability Business-minded thinking Revenue and growth awareness Strong networking and community outreach ability Sales-minded leadership with ability to help grow memberships and programs Competitive mindset Passion for mentorship and youth development Ability to wear multiple hats when needed Preferred Qualifications 3+ years in sports leadership, coaching, or academy management College playing or coaching experience preferred Experience running leagues, camps, or tournaments Experience managing staff or trainers Sales, sponsorship, or partnership experience strongly preferred Compensation Compensation is structured to reward both leadership and growth. Total Compensation Potential $45,000 - $65,000 annually Compensation includes a combination of: Base Salary Starting base salary: $36,000 - $48,000 annually Performance-Based Incentives / Commission Additional earning opportunities through: Sponsorship acquisition bonuses Membership growth incentives League registration growth bonuses Camp revenue bonuses Personal training revenue participation Annual performance bonuses tied to academy growth and profitability High-performing directors who successfully grow memberships, camps, sponsorships, and overall academy revenue will have the opportunity to earn toward the top end of the compensation range or exceed it.
