Help for Job Description. Opens a new window. General Definition of Work Responsible for supervision of fitness area and assistance to participants who are using exercise equipment. Provides information on policies, regulations, equipment usage and fitness-related events. Supervision Received Works under the general direction of Department or Division head. Supervision Exercised None.

Essential Functions
- Provides customer service by greeting patrons; providing facility and safety information; gym, ice rink fitness area hours of operation and fees; basic equipment instruction, etc.
- Assures that patrons observe all rules, policies and procedures established by the Recreation Division.
- Enforces Risk Management guidelines including program safety information and facility specific policies and
procedures including dress code and equipment use, to ensure safe and appropriate participation in facility
activities. - Responds to emergencies according to procedures and action plan guidelines.
- Administers first aid according to prescribed procedures, notifies appropriate personnel when necessary and reports
incidents as required by Recreation Division policies. Maintains basic first aid/CPR certifications. - Cleans area of assignment and maintains supplies and equipment on a daily basis.
- Issues rental and other sports equipment to customers, as needed.
- Periodic screening and check in of participants for particular information and documentation.
- Assist program supervisor to develop fitness area schedules, work assignments, and customer service surveys.
- Sets-up and breaks-down rooms/facility and equipment for special events, programs, and activities. Works special
events as assigned. - Assists with clerical duties such as filing, duplicating, maintaining routine records, and promotional materials, as
required. - Additional Essential Functions for Lead Rink Attendant
- Maintains the ice arena using the Zamboni Ice Resurfacer and the edgers.
- Monitors refrigeration plant and Reverse Osmosis (RO) water treatment systems.
- Distributes and maintains rental equipment, coordinates activities on the ice, and acts as first line of customer service.
- Sharpens and maintains rental skates and performs custom work on skates.
- Creates weekly ice depth maps and uses them to establish an ice maintenance plan.

Education Requirement
High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience Requirement Six (6) months of work, customer service and/or life experience in recreation and/or sports activities (ice skating, hockey,
aquatics, fitness, outdoor recreation, or other sports). Education and Experience Equivalency One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school
education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
- Licensure and Certifications
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
Special Requirements - For Assignment in Ice Arena must demonstrate proficiency in ice skating, in addition to the above.
- Must successfully pass background investigation.
- Certification in CPR/First Aid must be obtained within four (4) months of employment. License Requirements
- A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain and maintain a City of Santa Fe driving permit three (3) months of hire.
- One of the following national certifications must be obtained within one (1) year of hire: American College of Sports
Medicine - Fitness Instructor, National Strength, and Conditioning Association
- Certified Strength and Conditioning
Specialist, American Council on Exercise - Fitness Instructor, AFAA
- Personal Trainer. Physical Requirements
- Involves ice skating, physical activity, standing, sitting, and bending. Workweek will consist of irregular hours and
weekends. - Requires the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force.
- Requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, requires sitting, standing, walking, stooping,
kneeling, crouching, or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and lifting. - Standard vision requirements.
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying
detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly. - Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral
