Assistant Equipment Manager Hobart William Smith Colleges Location:
Geneva, NY Open Date:
Aug 13, 2026 Description The PT Assistant Equipment Manager is a vital part of the operations of Hobart and William Smith Athletics. The PT Assistant Equipment Manager works with others to support all 31 intercollegiate, multi-divisional sports (NCAA Division I & III) at HWS, with approximately 800 student athletes. The PT Assistant Equipment Manager will report to the Asst AD for Equipment and Operations and will have responsibilities in these areas: supervising student workers, inventory, equipment and uniform issue, shipping/receiving, and equipment maintenance, along with facility upkeep.
Essential Responsibilities:
Issue and return of equipment:
  • Provide all athletes with proper playing equipment and proper fitting protective equipment (e.g., helmets, shoulder pads)
  • Implement a check out system, issue equipment and ensure it is returned at the conclusion of the sport season.
  • Coordinate equipment return with coaches.
  • Keep accurate records of student billing of lost equipment.
  • Maintain daily washing, cleaning and mending of athletic equipment for all practices and games.
Staff Supervision:
  • Supervise student workers in conjunction with the Asst AD for Equipment and Operations.
Laundry:
  • Responsible for executing the laundry process.
  • Ensure that soiled laundry is washed, dried and returned to each individual player's locker in a timely manner and well in advance of their next scheduled practice or contest.
  • Ensure that all uniforms and travel gear is washed in a timely manner and represent HWS with pride
  • Demonstrate an extensive knowledge on laundry chemicals and their use on different types of stains.
  • Assist in the washing of towels for recreation, strength and conditioning and sports medicine.
  • Monitor the maintenance needs of the washers and dryers and schedule repairs as needed.
Facility Responsibilities:
  • Be security conscious, especially with equipment, laundry and team rooms.
  • Utilize an efficient laundry system.
  • Maintain equipment room in a neat, clean and well-organized manner.
Game Day Operations:
  • Follow established check list for both home and away contests.
  • Coordinate team uniform and warmup needs for home and away contests.
  • Meet and communicate with coaches, officials and visiting team representatives.
  • Escort visiting teams and officials to locker rooms and assist them as needed.
Staff and Campus Relations:
  • Foster a positive working relationship with department staff members.
  • Establish a positive working relationship with the Sodexo building and grounds staff and all members of the campus community.
  • Serve as a role model for all athletes.
Other duties as assigned by the Assistant AD for Equipment and Operations and/or the Deputy Director of Athletics.
Other Information:
This is a part-time, termed hourly position for the fall 2026 semester only. This position description is not all-inclusive as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned. Tentative hours are 8:30-12:00pm during the week (could vary). Evening and weekend work may be required.

Qualifications Experience as a student worker, collegiate or professional athletics equipment manager is preferred. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with college student-athletes, coaches and administrators within highly competitive NCAA multi-divisional intercollegiate athletics department. Candidates must demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills with all constituents. A valid U.S. drivers' license is required.
