Campers enjoy a traditional camp experience while returning home each night, and all programs are provided completely free of charge to families. We are currently hiring Sports Specialists to join our team for Summer 2026 . Sports Specialists play an important role in the Sunrise experience by leading fun, active sports programming and helping create a supportive environment where campers of all abilities can participate and enjoy being active. Role Overview Lead and engage campers in sports and recreational activities throughout the camp day Teach age-appropriate skills and games in a variety of sports Participate in and help lead games, activities, and special events Encourage teamwork, confidence, and positive sportsmanship Serve as a positive role model and build meaningful relationships with campers Work collaboratively with unit leadership and fellow staff Help maintain a safe, fun, and structured camp environment Why Sports Specialists Love Sunrise Meaningful impact: Make a real difference in the lives of children with cancer and their siblings Unforgettable experience: Be part of a joyful, high-energy camp community Strong friendships: Work alongside an incredibly supportive and passionate staff Personal growth: Build leadership, communication, and teamwork skills Mission-driven work: Families are never charged for camp Pure joy: Theme days, special events, and memories that last long after summer ends Schedule & Commitment Camp dates: June 29 - August 14, 2025 Mandatory training sessions held in June (dates TBD) Monday-Friday, daytime hours Seasonal, in-person position Transportation is provided for staff Paid & Volunteer Opportunities Paid positions: Minimum commitment of 6 weeks Volunteer positions: Minimum commitment of 4 weeks Qualifications Must be at least 16 years old Experience playing or coaching sports preferred Mature, responsible, energetic, and enthusiastic Comfortable working with children in a group setting Willing to participate fully in all camp activities Priority Hiring Priority will be given to Sports Specialists who live in or near: Orange County, NY Bergen County, NJ Westchester County, NY Putnam County, NY Bronx, NY Manhattan, NY Essex County, NJ Sports Specialists who are able to also serve as bus counselors (18+) and ride the bus with campers each morning and afternoon will receive priority hiring.
