Job Description

The Activities Assistant will provide an on-going activities program for their unit, including completing all paperwork involved with the position.
Job Requirements:
Education - 1. High School graduate with knowledge and understanding of the practical application of activity skills, Such as crafts, creative expression, music and group leadership 2. Full time positions require routing weekends and holidays
Experience:
Should have experience with elder care and well as respect for the elderly and physically/mentally challenged. Experience with those with Dementia a plus. Experience in a LTC facility required Essential Functions of the
Job:
1. Planning, development and implementation of activities which enrich the lives of the residents 2. Proactively encourage and support resident rights 3. Develop and lead small, medium and large activities 4. Work with residents who are low functioning 5.
Contribute to resident care planning:
assessments, care plan goals and approaches, and progress notes 6. Assist with documentation, etc. of daily and weekly attendance records 7. Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the Activities Department and other departments of the facility. Cooperate with other departments in meeting the needs of the residents 8. Work with volunteers - assist in work direction of volunteers as needed 9. Prepare rooms, equipment and supplies prior to each activity and clean up after each activity 10. Transport residents to and from activities as needed 11. Development of the monthly calendar, including providing creative input, ideas and suggestions for programs 12. Assist with field trips and outings 13. Maintain safe activity environment by using appropriate risk management, preventive maintenance, cleaning and storage 14. Attend education sessions 15. Follow established chain of command concerning department and facility business 16. Encourage resident and family participation in activities 17. Assist director and suprtvisor in evaluating effectiveness of programs, individual needs, and participation levels of each resident 18. Assist with correspondence, mailing, newsletters, bulletin boards and displays. Distribute memos and schedules and run errands 19. Complete other duties as assigned appropriate to the Activities Department 20. Maintain the department in an orderly condition by returning supplies and equipment to the proper location when finished using them 21. Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident information
