GENERAL PURPOSE
: The Sports and League Manager is responsible for overseeing the organization, management, and promotion of sports leagues and events. This role involves coordinating with teams, players, coaches, and sponsors to ensure the smooth operation of all activities. The manager will also handle administrative tasks, including scheduling, budgeting, and compliance with regulations, to deliver a high-quality sports experience for all participants.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, schedule, implement, administer, and manage all recreation sports, leagues, and fitness programs.
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate coaches, volunteers, contract fitness instructors, and weight room attendants.
- Ensure all league rules, department policies, and safety protocols are followed.
- Plan and manage projects; prepare bid specifications and proposals; coordinate the purchase of equipment and supplies.
- Respond to inquiries, issues, and complaints related to sports, leagues, and fitness programming; report concerns to the Director of Community Life.
- Develop and execute marketing and promotional strategies for leagues, fitness programs, and events.
- Design and distribute promotional materials.
- Create age-appropriate sports curriculum and ensure high-quality program delivery.
- Ensure the safety, well-being, and positive experience of all participants.
- Communicate effectively with parents, participants, coaches, and staff.
- Maintain schedules, rosters, reports, and other program documentation using Microsoft Office and related software.
- Evaluate the long-term needs of the sports, leagues, and fitness programs.
- Assist with department-wide events as needed.
- Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to work well with others.
- Perform other duties as required to support department operations.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in sports management, recreation, business administration, or related field preferred but not required .
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the job will be considered.
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in sports management, recreation programming, or a related field may substitute for a degree.
- Experience supervising staff or volunteers.
- Strong organizational, multitasking, and project management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with budgeting and financial planning.
- Knowledge of sports rules, recreation standards, and safety practices.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and computer literate , with the ability to use scheduling platforms, registration software, and digital communication tools.
- CPR and First Aid Certification required (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
