A Recreation or Activities Worker leads tours and vacation trips in outdoor or wilderness areas. Leads hiking, rafting, canoeing, climbing or diving activities for a group. Provides specialized knowledge about the history, terrain, ecology or wildlife for the tour. Manages transportation, equipment and provisions and assists with cooking.
Position responsible for assisting the Half Pints Leader with coordinating the Half Pints enrichment recreation program for ages 3-5. Half Pints runs from September - May with shift hours of Monday-Friday 8am-11:30am. During the summer, the position is responsible for assisting with the coordination of summer camps during the summertime.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Executes planned activities. Assists supervisor in planning program activities. Participates in structured activities with the children. Monitors and supervises children in all activities. Enforces program rules and policies. Ensures child is released to the correct parent/guardian. Keep attendance records and maintains a safe environment for the children. Prepares facility for daily activities and cleans up facility at end of the day. Assists with coordinating weekly themed summer camps for various ages. Steps in as Half Pints Leader when the Leader is out. Assists with special events and programs as assigned. Assists co-workers. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or equivalent. One-year experience in recreation, education, or related field preferred. CPR and First Aid Certification required within 90 days of hire.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of department policies and procedures. Ability to perform CPR and basic first aid. Ability to monitor planned activities with children. Ability to supervise and relate well to children. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to provide customer service to include problem solving and dispute resolution when necessary. Ability to work under pressure, in a fast-paced environment. SAFETY Employee is responsible for adhering to all safety procedures and regulations established by the Department, the City and all State and Federal organizations. Any safety concern should be reported to a supervisor immediately.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work requires exerting up to 15 pounds of force occasionally to move objects and the following physical abilities: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed indoors with some outdoor work.
