About the Role The Assistant Manager supports the General Manager in overseeing daily restaurant operations and creating a positive experience for both guests and employees. This position requires strong leadership, sound operational knowledge, and a genuine commitment to great food, friendly service, and a well-supported team. The Assistant Manager helps keep each shift running smoothly, efficiently, and in accordance with company policies and procedures. This is a hands-on role, and the Assistant Manager must be willing and able to jump into any area of the restaurant as needed, including front-of-house, back-of-house, food preparation, and guest service.
Key Responsibilities:
Shift Management
  • Serve as the manager on duty for assigned shifts, coordinating front-of-house and back-of-house employees while maintaining smooth operations and a positive guest experience. Daily Operations
  • Monitor food preparation, order accuracy, ticket times, customer service, cleanliness, and sanitation throughout the shift, supporting employees wherever needed. Opening and Closing
  • Complete all required opening and closing procedures, including assigned checklists, restaurant walkthroughs, cash handling,, and required documentation. Restaurant Readiness
  • Ensure the restaurant is clean, stocked, organized, and ready for service, and promptly escalate significant operational concerns to the General Manager. Cash Handling and POS Procedures
  • Follow company procedures for cash handling, point-of-sale transactions, cash drawers, deposits, discounts, voids, refunds, and other financial transactions. Purchasing and Inventory
  • Support purchasing, receiving deliveries, rotating products, organizing inventory, monitoring stock levels, and minimizing food and supply waste. Food and Workplace Safety
  • Help ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, alcohol-service, workplace safety, and company requirements. Conduct routine inspections and report any safety, sanitation, equipment, or maintenance concerns. Guest Service
  • Ensure positive guest experiences by monitoring service, training team members on expectations, and resolving customer questions or concerns promptly and professionally. Employee Support
  • Provide employees with direction and support during assigned shifts while helping maintain a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment. Staffing and Administration
  • Assist with recruiting, onboarding, scheduling, timekeeping adjustments, and other administrative responsibilities when assigned. Performance Management
  • Recognize strong performance, provide coaching and verbal counseling, and assist with performance documentation or corrective action as directed by the General Manager. Shift Communication
  • Communicate staffing concerns, guest issues, employee performance matters, maintenance needs, and other important information to the General Manager. Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on restaurant and business needs.
What We're Looking For:
Previous restaurant leadership experience required. Strong leadership, communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills. Ability to direct employees, provide coaching, and maintain accountability during assigned shifts. Working knowledge of front-of-house and back-of-house restaurant operations. Ability to jump into any area of the restaurant as needed, including guest service, food preparation, cleaning, and operational support. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to food quality, order accuracy, cleanliness, and guest satisfaction. Ability to follow and enforce company policies, operational procedures, food safety standards, and cash-handling requirements. Dependable attendance, punctuality, and reliable transportation. Ability to maintain a professional and respectful attitude during busy or stressful periods. Must obtain and maintain a valid Food Handler Card after hire. Must obtain and maintain a valid California Responsible Beverage Service certification within the required timeframe. Must be available to regularly work weekends, holidays, and varying schedules based on business needs. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; bend, reach, lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds with assistance when appropriate; and work safely around hot equipment, sharp utensils, wet surfaces, noise, and changing temperatures. Must be able to perform hands-on restaurant duties and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
