Job Description

Overview Scenic Golf & Country Club, a member-owned public golf club located at 8364 Filion Road in Pigeon, Michigan, is seeking to fill a vacancy for Golf Club General Manager starting with the 2027 season.
About the course:
Scenic is a 75-year-old country club located in a Lake Huron resort community in the Thumb area of Michigan. The club offers dining, social, and recreational opportunities. The Par 71 championship golf course challenges players of every level in a unique up north setting. The course plays from just over 4,500 yards to just over 6,100 yards. Scenic is the only 18-hole golf course in the immediate area, located four miles from Caseville. The club has approximately 150 members and is open to the public. Scenic is governed by a Board of Directors with nine members serving three-year terms. Committees at the Club include Finance & Strategic Planning, Social & Marketing, Clubhouse, Greens Tees & Landscaping, and Irrigation. Capital Projects are ongoing, with average investments exceeding depreciation.
Job Description :
The Golf Club General Manager (GM) is responsible for all aspects of the club, including its activities and relationships with members, guests, employees, and the community. In collaboration with the Board, the GM coordinates and administers the club's policies and develops, implements, and monitors the club's plans and budget. The GM is responsible for the Club's overall financial performance, monitors the quality of the club's products and services, ensures maximum member and guest satisfaction, leads all department managers, and oversees the entire team's performance. The GM is responsible for securing and protecting the club's assets, including facilities and equipment. Apply by October 10, 2026. The position would begin in early 2027 to allow time to plan for the season, with on-site employment starting in March 2027.
Work Availability :
30 to 50 hours per week from March to early November, with some off-season planning work required between mid-November and early March. Must be available to work Holidays and Weekends, according to business needs.
Experience Required Education and Experience :
Bachelor's degree in recreation, business management, agronomy, turf management, or related field is preferred. Previous experience as a General Manager for a golf course is preferred. CMAA members, PGA members or both are preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong general leadership skills with ability to anticipate and identify risks and problems and develop solutions and plans of action. Effective communication skills, collaborative people skills and ability to deal with conflict constructively. Skilled at planning and organization, with an ability to manage multiple tasks or projects. Comprehensive understanding of the methods used in the care and maintenance of golf course operations. Broad knowledge of food and beverage operations, laws, and regulations. Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and POS Systems (preferably Lightspeed).
Essential Responsibilities Duties/Responsibility :
(essential functions include, but are not limited to the following): Lead and direct the golf course operation through maintaining quality standards, meeting profit targets, developing and retaining employees, and exceeding member and guest expectations. Partner with the club's Board to develop operating and financial plans to ensure ongoing success of the club, including short-term operating and capital plans, and long-term capital and strategic plans for the club. Work with the Board and its committees to create marketing plans and programs, sales and pricing strategies that align with the club's operational and financial plans. Build a strong culture for club employees and members and ensure effective communication with and among club employees and members. Be active in the community to enhance Club reputation and identify areas for growth. Keep the Club members informed regarding the operation in a monthly newsletter and maintain a calendar of all Club functions. Manage any coordination necessary with the pro shop, clubhouse, and course in scheduling outside events. Oversee the Golf Pro Shop Manager, Clubhouse Manager, Golf Course Superintendent, and Bookkeeper, who deal with the practical aspects of managing day-to-day operations in their areas. Ensure buildings, equipment, and irrigation systems are maintained to ensure quality operations. Ensure the Golf Club operations and property comply with all federal, state, and local laws.
