Job Description
Emergency homeless shelter, soup kitchen, and social services agency in Union City, NJ, is hiring a Shelter Worker. Job duties include, but are not limited to:
Responsibilities:
1. Supervise evening shelter operations. 2. Complete intake forms for new guests. 3. Work with staff and volunteers to serve dinner and snacks each evening. 4. Monitor dining room, dormitory and security. 5. Oversee evening guest chores. 6. Must comply with all shelter policies and procedures. Bilingual English/Spanish is strongly preferred. Salary begins at $16.00 per hour. Some computer skills would be helpful.
Qualifications:
- 21+•Trustworthy, reliable, responsible individual.
- Ability to interact with diverse populations, including homeless and those with mental illness and substance abuse.
- Understanding of crisis prevention, intervention, and resolution techniques.
- Respect for clients' privacy and compliance with HIPAA laws.
Preferred qualifications:
- Prior experience in a shelter or institutional setting.
- Bilingual in Spanish.
