Professional Theater: House Manager
Job Description
The John W. Engeman Theater at Northport
- a professional AEA regional theater
- is looking for a Full-Time House Manager to join our theater family.
- Oversee all front-of-house operations to ensure patrons enjoy an exceptional, safe, and efficient theater experience.
- Resolve patron concerns, ticketing disputes, and accessibility needs promptly and professionally.
- Ensure the lobby, theater, restrooms, and public spaces remain clean, organized, accessible, and hazard-free.
- Coordinate house openings with Stage Management, ensuring the audience is safely seated prior to curtain time. Staff & Volunteer Supervision Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise front-of-house staff, including ushers, bartenders and other FOH team members.
- Conduct pre-show briefings with staff and volunteers regarding show details, accessibility accommodations, emergency protocols, and specific patron needs. Support staff during peak entry/exit times and step in to assist wherever needed.
- Maintain continuous communication with FOH staff throughout the performance to ensure ongoing duties—such as managing late seating, inventory restock, and other varying assignments—are consistently carried out while the show is running.
Valet & Traffic Coordination:
- Communicate regularly with valet staff and parking attendants to ensure a smooth, efficient load-in and load-out process for patrons arriving and departing in vehicles. Venue Operations & Administrative Tasks
- Oversee lobby concessions and bar sales, ensuring accurate inventory tracking and cash/ card reconciliation.
- Complete detailed post-show reports documenting attendance, accidents or incidents, general sales, and general operational feedback. Safety, Accessibility & Compliance
- Serve as the primary emergency coordinator for the theater and lobby areas during performances.
- Enforce venue policies regarding fire safety codes, coat check, and photography/ recording restrictions.
- Candidate must be able to stand for long stretches unassisted, lift up to 20 lbs and move quickly in the vent of an urgent issue or emergency.
Job Type:
Full-time Pay:
$55,000.00- $60,000.
