Job Description

Allister is an independently woman-owned neighborhood restaurant and cocktail bar located in downtown Mercer Island. led by Chef Joel Childs, our menu features seasonal New American food made with Northwest ingredients and French and Asian influences. We strive to provide an experience that feels elevated and special while remaining warm, welcoming, and approachable.

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Assistant General Manager to lead our front-of-house operation and help guide Allister through its next stage of growth.

This is a leadership position with meaningful autonomy and accountability. The AGM will report directly to the owner and work closely with our Chef to create a consistent guest experience, develop a strong team, and ensure that the restaurant runs smoothly each day.

This is not an office-only management position. Our AGM will be a visible presence on the floor, actively leading service, supporting employees, connecting with guests, and stepping in wherever needed.

The owner will remain involved in the restaurants operations, strategy, marketing, private events, and major business decisions. The AGM will take primary responsibility for the successful execution of daily front-of-house operations.

Key ResponsibilitiesLead daily front-of-house floor operations and maintain a warm, polished, and consistent guest experienceServe as the primary floor leader during key servicesCreate FOH schedules, staffing plans, floor plans, and shift assignmentsManage labor thoughtfully based on sales and business needsRecruit, onboard, train, coach, and develop FOH employeesEstablish clear expectations and hold team members accountable in a respectful and consistent mannerLead and reinforce service standards, menu knowledge, and beverage educationHandle guest concerns and service recovery with professionalism and sound judgmentStrengthen communication and coordination between the front and back of houseOversee opening and closing procedures, cash handling, comps, voids, and other FOH systemsReview sales, labor, guest feedback, and operational opportunities with the ownerSupport the execution of private events, promotions, and new menu launchesIdentify ways to improve service, efficiency, team performance, and revenueEnsure compliance with applicable food safety, alcohol-service, workplace, and company standardsPreferred QualificationsAt least five years of restaurant management experience, including experience as an
AGM, GM, FOH
Manager, or comparable senior leaderExperience in an upscale-casual, chef-driven, or fine-dining environmentA proven ability to lead, train, and develop a front-of-house teamStrong knowledge of scheduling, labor management, service systems, and restaurant financialsA calm, confident, and solutions-oriented presence during busy servicesDirect but empathetic communication and the ability to work with different personalitiesStrong hospitality instincts and genuine enjoyment of caring for guestsWorking knowledge of wine, spirits, cocktails, and responsible alcohol serviceExcellent organization, follow-through, and attention to detailAvailability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as neededA current Washington Food Worker Card and MAST permit, or the ability to obtain them promptlyNo college degree is required.
