  • Full-time Job Summary The Slinger School District is seeking a Head Cook
  • Kitchen Manager for a school-term position beginning August 24, 2026.
This position will work 7.5 hours per day throughout the school year. The successful candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Food service experience required, preferably in institutional food service. Must hold certification for Wisconsin Food Manager or able to obtain within 60 days of employment. Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced food service environment.
CERTIFICATION/QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent; with a minimum of two (2) years of food service experience. Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, and team-building experience. Preferred Knowledge of USDA school nutrition program requirements and regulations. Experience using Skyward and Health-e Pro software. Proficiency in basic math skills necessary to accurately scale recipes, calculate food quantities, and maintain food and supply inventories. Ability to safely operate commercial kitchen equipment, including ovens, ranges, steamers, warmers, dishwashers, and other food service equipment. Accurately record food production quantities, inventory usage, and temperature logs in accordance with established procedures. Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to use food service management software and standard office applications. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Ability to successfully complete and pass a District required pre-employment testing.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Forecast meal production quantities to ensure efficient and cost-effective lunch service. Plan, prepare, and cook meals using standardized recipes and production records while maintaining quality and consistency. Ensure all food preparation, handling, and service activities comply with applicable state laws. Department of Public Instruction (DPI) regulations & USDA requirements Accurately document food production, inventory usage, and temperature logs using production worksheets and the Health-e Pro nutrition management system. Conduct regular inventories of food, supplies, and equipment to maintain appropriate stock levels and minimize waste. Order food, supplies, and other kitchen-related items to support daily operations and menu requirements. Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen by ensuring compliance with all food safety and sanitation standards. Supervise, coordinate, and support kitchen staff to ensure daily operations are completed efficiently, safely in accordance with established policies. Foster a positive, collaborative work environment by providing leadership, guidance, and support to kitchen team members. Perform the physical demands of the position over extended periods, including walking, standing, bending, twisting, turning, squatting, lifting, sweeping, and mopping. Lift up to 50 pounds to waist level, up to 40 pounds to shoulder level, and up to 10 pounds overhead. Maintain an appropriate professional appearance and personal hygiene suitable for working in a food service environment.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This position is a school term position, 7.5 hours per day position, for each day of the school year scheduled. Compensation, benefits, and all other conditions of employment are established by the Board of Education in accordance with the Nutrition Services Handbook. Employee performance will be evaluated by the Food Service Director using the established nutrition staff evaluation form.
