Job Description

Position Overview The idea of Bread & Chocolate came from our founder's kitchen. We take great pride in the foods we prepare and are careful to invite people to join our staff who understand this and can uphold our standards. The Lead Kitchen Assistant position is central to our kitchen. This position is expected to take responsibility for the kitchen when the Kitchen Manager is not available. This position includes, but is not limited to, assisting in the preparing of dishes, cooking, delivering meals, washing dishes, and maintaining the kitchen and equipment. This is a fast-paced position where quality and timing is important. The person in this position will have access to or will encounter sensitive/private information and is expected to be familiar with and fully comply with B&C's Privacy Policies. Hours & Compensation This is a part-time position with a lot of variation in schedule. Work hours can vary between 5-25 hrs a week, including day, evening, and weekend hours, as well as some holidays. Rate of pay is determined based on experience, taking into account market rates. Responsibilities Assist the Kitchen Manager Be fully trained to cover for Kitchen Manager Cleanup throughout the day and at the end of each day, including kitchen appliances, work surfaces, floors, and walls Wash dishes and utensils and make sure they are stored in an organized way in the designated areas Ensure that all food preparation areas are clean and hygienic Wash, peel, chop, cut and cook and help to prepare meals Responsible for some smaller meals, as delegated by Kitchen Manager Delivery of some catering orders Delivery of food donations Have a clear understanding of food safety guidelines and protocols and apply all principles carefully to your work Occasional small errands, as necessary Attend to our dress code carefully Requirements Education and Work Experience High School diploma or equivalent Previous kitchen experience preferred General Requirements Time efficient, organized, and detail-oriented Ability to take direction well Excellent communications skills Willingness to learn and work with a team of people Ability to develop professional relationships with coworkers Ability to problem-solve and work independently in a changing and fast-paced environment Ability to respond to stressful situations in professional and productive ways Ability to lift 50 pounds Ability to spend entire shift, with the exception of breaks, on your feet
