JOB SUMMARY
The Ambassador Shift Supervisor at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for managing and optimizing patient and visitor transport, including wheelchairs, stretchers, and other means of transport. This role collaborates with the Department Manager and serves a vital patient-facing role, utilizing strong communication and organization skills to engage with a diverse array of people, document and track all requests for transport service, and monitor transport equipment to ensure smooth and timely transportation. This role requires knowledge related to infection prevention and skills to guide and educate on infection prevention techniques required for safe patient transportation, coordinate activities and staffing, and effectively interface cross-functionally with providers and staff to meet all patient needs and drive positive patient outcomes. As a supervisor, this role oversees and guides a team of employees to ensure efficient task completion, promoting teamwork and effective coordination.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Transportation Management:
This position receives patients/visitors and relays information concerning transportation needs to appropriate personnel. Assists with overseeing patient transportation system/processes while on scheduled shift. Supports Ambassadors during peak transport times by receiving and transporting patients/visitors in a safe and timely manner to their designated site to ensure there are no delays in patient care, procedures, treatment, and/or discharges. Seeks opportunities to reduce waste and streamline processes to aid in safe and timely movement of patients within the organization. Adheres to all policies and procedures for patient transport and uses proper body mechanics during transport, and ensures Ambassadors are oriented and follow these policies and procedures and proper body mechanics during transport. Orients and ensures Ambassadors possess working knowledge of Patient Transportation system, paging system, phone system and logging in and out of patient transport assignments. Assist with the transport of patients requiring oxygen and IV therapy. Ensure the safe and proper handling of oxygen tanks and IV equipment during transport. Monitor patients' conditions during transport and report any changes to the nursing staff. Provide comfort and reassurance to patients during transport.
Documentation:
This position documents all requests for transport service to provide an accurate and timely tracking system. Maintenance:
This position works with Facility Services Department to ensure maintains wheelchairs, stretchers, etc., are maintained in a clean and sanitary condition as well as proper working order.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education High School Diploma or GED Equivalent Licenses and Certifications Work Experience 1-3 years 1-3 years Knowledge Skills and Abilities Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics Must be able to recognize changes or abnormalities in patient condition and report to appropriate staff. Must have excellent leadership and communication skills with a diverse group of people. Must have the ability to prioritize, assist, and perform numerous transport functions Must demonstrate a pattern of accountability, superior performance and good character Effectively communicates with staff, patients/family members, visitors and the general public Must reflect a positive, caring attitude towards clients, patients, staff and the public we serve. Must perform other duties as assigned or required to allow for the smooth and efficient operation of the transport service The incumbent must be able to prioritize and delegate transportation assignments. The incumbent must be able to document and validate transportation requests in an expedient manner. Must recognize patients in need of assistance and activate appropriate resources when needed. Must project a professional and personable image to patients, family members, staff, and other customers Must interact and communicate information and ideas to all levels of personnel within the organization.
