Shift Supervisor - Power Generation (NYC) Position Overview A power generation facility in New York City is seeking an experienced Shift Supervisor to lead plant operations during an assigned 12-hour rotating shift. This position has overall responsibility for safe and reliable plant operation while on shift, including oversight of operating personnel, generation equipment, maintenance coordination, and response to abnormal or emergency conditions. The Shift Supervisor serves as the senior operational leader on the assigned shift and is expected to make sound technical decisions that protect personnel, equipment, and plant availability. The ideal candidate brings hands-on power or steam plant experience, a strong understanding of high-pressure boiler operations, and prior experience leading operations personnel in a union environment. Key Responsibilities Direct and supervise plant personnel throughout the assigned shift, ensuring work is completed safely and in accordance with operating procedures and regulatory requirements. Maintain oversight of plant operating conditions and generation equipment, responding to equipment issues, changing conditions, and operational events as needed. Conduct routine plant rounds and field inspections to identify potential safety, equipment, or operational concerns before they escalate. Coordinate plant operations with maintenance activities and establish priorities for work affecting equipment availability and reliability. Review and authorize equipment removals from service, including proper clearance, lockout/tagout, and issuance of applicable safety permits. Ensure required shift, daily, weekly, and monthly operating inspections and checks are completed accurately and on schedule. Lead the shift response to plant emergencies and abnormal operating conditions, taking appropriate action to protect employees and maintain plant integrity. Coordinate emergency preparedness and response activities, including severe weather events, environmental incidents, and staffing needs. Communicate effectively with maintenance personnel, dispatching organizations, plant management, and other internal and external stakeholders. Supervise, coach, and develop operations personnel while providing ongoing performance feedback and supporting technical training. Manage shift personnel in accordance with established workplace policies and applicable collective bargaining agreements. Promote a high-performance operating culture built around safety, accountability, teamwork, and sound technical decision-making. Monitor the effective use of plant resources and support cost-conscious operational decisions. Inspect active work areas and job sites to identify and proactively address safety or operational concerns. Required Qualifications A valid and current New York City High Pressure Stationary Engineer License is required. Minimum of 5 years of experience in power plant or steam plant operations and maintenance , including direct experience with high-pressure boilers and electrical generation equipment. Previous leadership experience as a Shift Supervisor, Operations Supervisor, or in a comparable plant operations leadership capacity is strongly preferred. Experience supervising or leading employees in a union environment is highly desirable. Strong understanding of utility-scale power generation operations, plant safety practices, equipment isolation, and emergency response. Demonstrated ability to make timely technical and operational decisions in a 24/7 plant environment. Strong leadership, communication, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities. Valid driver's license. Candidates may qualify through either of the following combinations of education and experience: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related discipline with at least 4 years of utility-scale power plant operations experience; or High school diploma or equivalent with at least 8 years of utility-scale power plant operations experience. Preferred Background Candidates with a combination of the following experience will be especially well suited for the position: Previous experience as an engineer or in another technical power plant position before progressing into operations leadership. Career progression through hands-on plant operations, attainment of the required operating engineer license, and eventual advancement into a supervisory role. Combined-cycle, conventional steam, utility, or other large-scale power generation experience. Experience operating within New York City power plants or similarly complex and highly regulated generating facilities. Experience supervising union personnel or working under collective bargaining agreements. A strong technical foundation with the ability to troubleshoot plant issues and confidently direct operations during abnormal conditions. Schedule & Working Conditions This is a 12-hour rotating shift position supporting continuous 24/7 plant operations. Candidates must be available to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays as required by the rotation. The position requires the ability to work throughout an industrial power plant environment, including standing and walking for extended periods, climbing stairs and ladders, working at heights, entering confined spaces, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Employees must also be able to wear required personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection when necessary. Pay:

$150,000.00 - $190,000.00 per year
