Grand Strand Brewing Company

Key Holder/Shift Lead

Job Description

JKey Holder / Shift Lead — Grand Strand Brewing Company Myrtle Beach, SC

• Full-time

• Hourly + tips We're a veteran-owned craft brewery and taproom in the old Edwards Five and Dime building on Kings Highway, in the heart of Myrtle Beach's Arts and Innovation District. We brew our own beer, run our own kitchen, and we're part of what downtown is becoming. We're hiring one Key Holder to be the right hand to our General Manager — and the person in charge when she's not here. What this job is Two jobs in one, and you'll need to be good at both. When the GM is here, you're on the floor as a server — running a section, taking care of guests, and taking the weight off her so she can run the business. When the GM isn't here, you're the Manager on Duty. You open or close the building, run the shift, direct the team, take care of problems before they become problems, and lock up at the end of the night. We're handing someone keys, alarm codes, and the safe. That's the real bar for this role. What you'll do Open and close the building to checklist — walkthrough, bank count, line check, draft check, cash-out, deposit, alarm, lock-up Run a full server section and deliver real hospitality: know the beer, know the food, know the regulars Lead the shift when the GM is out — assign sections, keep FOH and BOH talking, solve the guest issue at the table Protect our license: card everyone who looks under 40, refuse service when it's the right call, and make sure everyone serving on your shift is certified Handle cash accurately and account for every comp, void, and variance Support taproom events alongside our event manager — setup, service flow, breakdown Write a shift report your GM can act on in two minutes Report facility and equipment issues fast, before they turn into a closed night What you need 21 or older (SC law — this role pours and supervises alcohol service) A valid SC alcohol server certificate, or the ability to get one within 30 days of hire (we'll point you to an approved SCDOR program) At least 1-2 years in a busy restaurant, bar, brewery, or taproom, including some time as a shift lead, key holder, bartender-in-charge, or trainer A clean track record with cash — drawers, deposits, and honest variance reporting Reliable availability for nights, weekends, and holidays, and for both opening and closing shifts. This is Myrtle Beach; peak-season weekends are the job. The backbone to hold a standard with people who are also your friends What helps Craft beer knowledge — styles, process, off-flavors, draft systems. Cicerone Certified Beer Server is a plus, not a requirement. Toast POS experience ServSafe certification Basic draft troubleshooting Event or private-buyout experience Veteran or military family background — we're veteran-owned and that experience means something here The physical part Standing and moving your whole shift. Lifting up to 50 lbs regularly and moving kegs with help or good technique. Stairs, coolers, hot kitchen equipment, loud rooms on event nights. What we offer [Key holder differential on shifts you run as Manager on Duty] Employee discount on beer and merch Flexible scheduling around a real life A GM who will actually train you and an ownership group that's in the building A path. This is the role we promote taproom managers out of.
