PAY $17.00-$24.50 per hour, plus commission Full-time | In-person
NON-NEGOTIABLE AVAILABILITY & EXPERIENCE
Open availability with no schedule restrictions is required. This role must be available for mornings, evenings, weekends, opening shifts, closing shifts, and business needs as scheduled. This is approximately a 90% outdoor / 10% office-operational position. This is NOT a desk-management role.
Applicants must have either:
Prior car wash experience, OR Previous Shift Lead / equivalent leadership experience Candidates without either of the above will not be considered.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Shift Lead supports the General Manager and Assistant Manager in the full operation of the site and is expected to be capable of leading the location when senior management is not physically standing beside them. This is a hands-on leadership position. A Shift Lead is expected to lead from the front, set the pace, uphold company standards, develop employees, drive sales performance, protect customer experience, maintain safety, and ensure the property is operating at a high level throughout the entire shift. Leadership at Shammy's means doing the same work you expect your team to do. No job is beneath leadership. Shift Leads must be willing and able to work every position they supervise, including selling memberships, assisting customers, loading vehicles, conducting lot checks, cleaning restrooms, handling trash, restocking towels and amenities, cleaning tunnel areas, completing opening and closing duties, and supporting the overall needs of the site.
DAILY SHIFT LEAD RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist the GM and ASM with all day-to-day site operations Lead assigned shifts and provide clear direction to employees Assign positions, adjust coverage, manage breaks, and maintain proper staffing throughout the shift Monitor customer flow, tunnel pace, sales activity, property condition, equipment concerns, and employee performance Verify that assigned tasks are actually completed rather than assuming they were completed Maintain urgency and productivity during both busy and slow periods Step into any operational position when needed Ensure the site remains organized, professional, customer-ready, and fully operational
EMPLOYEE LEADERSHIP, COACHING & ACCOUNTABILITY
The Shift Lead is responsible for helping create a high-accountability culture. Expectations include : Set clear expectations at the beginning of the shift Coach employees in real time rather than waiting until problems become patterns Train and retrain employees when standards are not being met Give direct, respectful, specific feedback Recognize strong performance while still correcting weak performance Address conduct, attendance, phone usage, lack of urgency, wandering from assigned stations, poor customer interactions, safety violations, and other performance concerns Document and communicate employee issues to management promptly and accurately Follow through after coaching to ensure behavior actually improves Never ignore an issue because the conversation may be uncomfortable Hold yourself to the same or higher standard as the employees you lead A Shift Lead is expected to bring solutions, not excuses. Mistakes must be owned. Coaching must be accepted professionally. Follow-through is required.
SALES & CONVERSION PERFORMANCE
Sales performance is a major part of this role.
Shift Leads are expected to:
Personally participate in membership sales Understand all wash packages, membership options, promotions, pricing, and customer benefits Coach CSAs on greetings, needs assessment, product knowledge, explaining value, handling objections, and closing Give immediate feedback after customer interactions when needed Help develop new CSAs until they can confidently sell independently Keep the sales lane active and engaged Monitor performance throughout the shift Help the site maintain a minimum 15% weekly and monthly conversion expectation Understand that leadership performance includes both personal results and the team's results Maintain accurate badge scanning so individual sales and conversion data can be tracked correctly Correct missed scans immediately and reinforce scanning expectations with the team Conversion, effort, execution, and accurate tracking all matter. Leaders are expected to know the numbers and coach based on real performance.
CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE & SERVICE RECOVERY
Greet and assist customers professionally Resolve customer concerns calmly and respectfully Know when an issue can be handled at the Shift Lead level and when it must be escalated Protect the customer experience without ignoring company policy Gather accurate facts before communicating incidents or claims Never argue with customers or allow frustration to dictate the interaction Help maintain a welcoming, high-energy, professional environment
TUNNEL, VEHICLE & SITE SAFETY
Safety is non-negotiable.
Shift Leads must:
Ensure vehicles are loaded correctly and safely Reinforce all pre-entry vehicle and tunnel procedures Watch for unsafe vehicle conditions or prohibited items Stop and address unsafe practices immediately Ensure employees are following company safety expectations Identify equipment concerns, leaks, damage, unusual sounds, or operational problems Communicate maintenance concerns immediately Follow up instead of assuming someone else handled the issue Never allow speed or convenience to override safety
PROPERTY CLEANLINESS & LOT STANDARDS
The entire property must remain clean throughout the day, not just at opening or closing. Shift Leads are responsible for maintaining and verifying: Vacuum area cleanliness Trash removal Towels and amenities Pay stations Driveways and entry areas Parking and lot appearance Restrooms Office and employee areas Dumpster enclosure Tunnel cleanliness Equipment areas Overall presentation of the property A "lot check" means physically checking the complete customer-facing area, correcting problems, clearing trash, checking vacuums, replacing full trash bags, restocking supplies, and ensuring the site is customer-ready.
OPENING & CLOSING RESPONSIBILITIES
When assigned, Shift Leads must: Complete opening procedures accurately and on time Ensure the site is fully ready for customers before operations begin Complete closing procedures completely rather than rushing through them Verify assigned closing checklist items Complete required cleaning Secure the building, keys, cash, and operational areas Provide accurate closing documentation and required photos Communicate anything incomplete, damaged, unusual, or requiring follow-up Falsifying, skipping, or claiming a task was completed when it was not completed is unacceptable.
CASH, KEY & SECURITY RESPONSIBILITIES
Shift Leads may be trusted with cash handling, keys, site access, and security responsibilities. The expectation is complete integrity and accuracy.

Following cash handling procedures Protecting company funds Securing keys and restricted areas Maintaining accurate counts and documentation Immediately reporting discrepancies Following opening/closing security procedures Protecting company property and information
POLICY ENFORCEMENT
Shift Leads are expected to know, follow, and help enforce company and site policies, including: Attendance and punctuality Phone usage Uniform and appearance Office access Safety standards Badge scanning Customer service Professional behavior Assigned-station expectations Documentation Integrity Opening and closing procedures Cleaning and operational standards Leadership cannot enforce standards they personally ignore.
COMMUNICATION & DOCUMENTATION
Strong communication is mandatory. Shift Leads are expected to communicate early, clearly, professionally, and accurately regarding: Employee issues Attendance problems Customer complaints Equipment concerns Safety incidents Cash or security concerns Staffing problems Site conditions Incomplete tasks Operational concerns Bad news should never be hidden. Problems should never be minimized. Management should never have to discover an issue later that the Shift Lead already knew about. If you see it, address it. If it needs escalation, communicate it. If you communicate it, follow through.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS A

PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT EXPECTATIONS
Applicants must be comfortable: Working approximately 90% outdoors Working in Texas heat, cold, wind, and changing weather conditions Standing and walking for extended periods, including 8+ hour shifts Bending, reaching, cleaning, moving throughout the property, and remaining physically active Working around water, vehicles, moving equipment, and car wash operations Maintaining energy and professionalism in a fast-paced environment
COMPENSATION & GROWTH
Pay range: $17.00-$24.50 per hour plus commission. Starting rate within the range will depend on relevant experience, demonstrated leadership ability, and overall fit for the role. Training will be provided on Shammy's systems, products, policies, sales expectations, operations, and leadership standards. Advancement is earned through performance, integrity, reliability, leadership, and consistent follow-through.
