Tour Guide / Storyteller Part-Time | Evenings & Weekends | San Luis Obispo, CA About Mystery Loves Company Tours Founded in 2021, Mystery Loves Company Tours LLC is a locally owned walking tour company in beautiful San Luis Obispo, California. We specialize in unforgettable storytelling experiences that blend real local history with just the right touch of ghostly intrigue. Our tours offer visitors and locals alike a new way to explore SLO—one spooky story at a time. As we prepare to launch new tours this October, we're seeking energetic, reliable, and creative storytellers to join our growing team! What You'll Do As a Tour Guide & Storyteller, you'll: Lead 60-90 minute walking tours through downtown SLO in the evening Bring to life captivating stories that combine historical facts with haunted folklore Guide groups of up to 30 people across a 1-1.5 mile route Represent our brand with warmth, humor, and professionalism Check in guests, answer questions, and create a welcoming environment before each tour Memorize provided scripts and add your own unique performance style Work a minimum of 4 tours per week, especially on weekends and holidays Adapt quickly to weather, group dynamics, or unexpected challenges What We're Looking For You'd be a great fit if you are: A confident public speaker with charisma and presence Comfortable leading and entertaining large groups Skilled at storytelling, improvisation, or acting (experience is a plus!) Dependable and punctual with reliable transportation A people person with strong customer service and conflict resolution skills Able to walk and stand for extended periods outdoors Equipped with a smartphone and able to check in guests digitally Available evenings between 7:00 PM - 10:30 PM , including weekends and holidays

Compensation & Perks Base Pay:

$16-$20 per hour (based on experience)

Want to stand out? Send a 2-5 minute video of yourself telling a ghost story or personal tale to fast-track your application. Hiring Process Step 1: Apply Submit your materials. We'll contact selected candidates for interviews via Zoom. Step 2: Interview Meet virtually and show off your storytelling chops. Step 3: Training Two virtual group onboarding sessions, plus self-guided script rehearsal. You'll have one week to prep and will deliver a mock tour to staff for evaluation. Step 4: Onboard & Launch Once you pass the practice tour, you'll officially join our team, receive your $100 training bonus, and get started with real tours (your first one will be supervised). Final Notes Tours run year-round , rain or shine. Guides may occasionally be asked to be on call during peak seasons.
