Job Summary Best Tours of Denver LLC is looking for someone who has experience driving a bus or a transit van. This person needs to be able to drive and conduct a tour, at the same time. There are times that the driver would be accompanied by a tour guide, and not required to do both; however, it you do both, the hourly pay increases. drivers/tour guides need to have a passion for history, entertaining customers, and educating visitors who want to learn more about the city of Denver. This job requires high customer service skills, for customers are our #1 priority. Those with a theater, teaching, and or a sales background would be perfect for this position, but not necessarily a requirement. A good personality and customer service skills is what we are looking for in this position. We currently do not have any full-time positions available, and all of our guides and drivers are independent contractors who are able to lead tours 1-4 days each week. This job is specifically for our Denver City Adventures Bus Tour, with runs daily, at 10:00 AM and 1:30 PM, with a space in the middle for a lunch break. You must be on time and responsible, have a clean driving record, and be able to pass a background check. This is a fun job, that will allow you flexibility, and allow you to earn great money in a short amount of time. We are looking for team members who meet most of the following criteria: Knowledgeable about the city's culture and history (full paid training with tour route and talking points provided) Experience driving a 14 passenger transit van, or a larger bus (You will only be driving a Ford Transit van. Passion for either leading tours or working with groups of people of all ages Performance experience (stage, screen, music, improv, comedy, etc.) not required. Teaching experience, not required Tourism or travel industry experience, not required Love the city of Denver Availability to lead day tours, 1-4 days per week (Tours are all 1.5 to 2 hours long. You will get paid a flat fee, regardless if the tour runs 1.5 or 2 hours long). The pay is , based on the number of people on each tour. if the driver is also conducting the tour. As a bonus, you will get paid tips, which is dependent on the amount that the guests pay, per tour. Tips are split between the tour guide and the bus driver, unless the bus driver is also conducting the tour. Additionally, we offer private tours, that are customized to the guests needs. Those tours can start at anytime during the day, and you will be asked in advance, with the option to conduct these tours. The Tour Guide's responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Conduct bus tours in the downtown Denver area, and in Capitol Hill neighborhood. Each tour runs between 1.5 to 2 hours in length. Share historically accurate information/facts (from provided talking points) in an entertaining, lively and engaging manner. This may include fun facts, ghost stories, scandals, trivia, famous residents, and Denver 's history. Do observational research by taking part in other guides' tours, in order to gain insight into the roles and responsibilities of a tour guide and attributes of an excellent tour guide. Attend meetings. Follow an established paid training and paid professional development work plan for a 1-2 week period of time. You will not have to learn the script, initially, you will strictly be driving in the first few weeks. You will have time to learn the tour script, as you go. Begin hosting tours within two to three weeks of hire. Take photos, with permission from the guests Help guest in and out of the tour vehicle. Arrive at the starting location, 10 minutes before the tour begins.
Note:
the tour bus will be parked, within 2 to 3 miles from the starting/ending location. You will need to build in time to pick up the bus, and drive it to the starting/ending location. This would most likely require an additional 10 to 15 minutes.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must be able to drive a 14 passenger transit van. Clean Driving record Be able to pass a background check. Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English Ability to complete work by established deadlines Superb group management skills Dedication to outstanding customer service Excellent speaking skills, with an ability to relay information to groups in a fun, unique way Knowledge of Denver history, architecture, and key downtown Denver tourist destinations is preferred (We will teach you everything you need to know). Task oriented and highly motivated Reliable and timely High integrity and confidence Ability to work both independently and as a team member Exceptional personality Must be able to memorize talking points and relay them in an entertaining manner Must ensure the safety and well-being of all guests.
Qualifications:
High School graduate or equivalent is required Access to internet and computer Interest and/or knowledge of Denver history is preferred Prior performance, teaching, sales, or group leadership experience is preferred, but not required. A good personality and the ability to drive bus and deliver an entertaining tour is the most important skill needed.
Pay & Benefits:
This is a long-term contractor position. Paid training and professional development - $18.81/hour. Tour guide pay -25.00 to $75.00 per hour + tips, for tours that last 1.5 to 2 hours, possible two tours per day. Your day will typically start at 9:45 and end by 3:30, depending on if you have two tours per day. You will have a lunchbreak in the middle of the two tour times. No benefits are available to contractors.
