Job Description

Title:
Schoolhouse Guide About the role: We are seeking a part-time guide who likes to collaborate with young people to learn, experiment, and problem solve. Candidates are dependable, thoughtful, and work well as part of a team. Guides work with lead teachers in schoolhouse meetings for learners ages 5-12.
Hours:
Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday, 8:45-4:30pm, following our schoolhouse calendar (36 weeks, August to June), plus 1+ hours of autonomous planning at home depending on responsibilities, and including paid training and meetings About our community : We serve and are members of a community of homeschooling families. Our schoolhouse meetings include mixed-age groups of learners ages 5 and up. Our mission during meetings is to create collaborative learning experiences with young people, and our approach includes Montessori and self-directed learning philosophies. This means that adults in our space respect young people's agency and curiosity and work to activate, encourage, and support learning. It also means that young people in our community are responsible, respectful, and eager to engage in learning! Ideal Candidates:
Celebrate their own curiosity and love of learning Engage is nurturing and share joy with young people Demonstrate understanding of and commitment to self-directed and/or Montessori approaches to learning Are willing to both learn from and lead others (including young people) Exercise respectful and compassionate limit setting
Responsibilities:
Welcome learners during arrival and guide transitions and closing Share time outdoors with young people in all kinds of weather Partner with another adult guide to promote and be part of a safe and secure learning environment Support learners in creating daily plans for work Act as a coach as learners engage in academic work and projects Apply the Socratic method. That is, guide learners to explore answers to questions rather than answering first Collaborate with learners to create meaningful portfolios of learning Complete daily checklists for clean-up in our environment
Requirements:
Candidates for this role must Complete a Complete and register a tuberculosis check Complete AED/First Aid training

Staff committed to two shifts or more for an academic year receive tuition reduction of 25% for their children.
