Gilbert House Restaurant

Server - Guest Experience Leader

Job Description

Server — Guest Experience Leader We're looking for our next #1 server —someone who is exceptionally warm, highly efficient, and genuinely energized by caring for people. At The Gilbert House, great service means more than getting an order right. It means remembering a guest's name and favorite drink. It means asking how their vacation went, remembering what their kids are up to, and making people feel like they belong here. Our best servers create regulars, strengthen our community, and light up people's days.
Our mission is simple:
friendly service, scratch-made food, and rooted in community. We're looking for someone who lives that mission naturally. What exceptional service looks like here You will: Welcome every guest with sincere warmth and make meaningful, appropriate connections. Remember faces, names, preferences, and the details guests choose to share. Turn first-time visitors into regulars—and make regulars feel like family. Learn and confidently share the story of our farmhouse, our family, and how the restaurant was founded. Anticipate what guests and teammates need instead of waiting to be asked. "Read the plate": notice when food is left uneaten or something seems wrong, ask thoughtful questions, and take action to make it right. Make helpful recommendations and increase sales in a natural, guest-focused way—never with pressure or an obnoxious sales pitch. Work quickly, accurately, and calmly while maintaining genuine hospitality. Support the entire restaurant under our philosophy of One Team, Every Task . Notice what needs to be done and step in, whether or not it is technically "your job." Communicate clearly and treat guests, cooks, dishwashers, support staff, managers, and fellow servers with equal respect. The person we're looking for You may be a strong fit if you: Are extraordinarily friendly, observant, and comfortable starting conversations. Have a talent for remembering people and making them feel seen. Can build relationships without becoming intrusive or slowing down service. Are organized, fast, dependable, and able to manage several priorities at once. Take ownership when something isn't right. Receive coaching well and are always looking to improve. Care about the success of the whole restaurant, not just your own section or tips. Understand that leadership includes doing every kind of work—not only the most desirable shifts. Have serving experience preferred, though exceptional hospitality, initiative, and character matter most. Hours and availability Our earliest shifts begin at 6:30 a.m. We close at 2:00 p.m. , with additional time needed afterward to complete closing responsibilities. Occasional catering and special-event shifts may be available outside our normal hours. Availability for these events is ideal, but not required. Performance-based scheduling Server shifts are assigned based on the needs of the restaurant and demonstrated performance.
Factors may include:
Sales per hour and responsible sales-building Guest feedback and reviews Quality, consistency, teamwork, and reliability Objective manager evaluations Strong performance can lead to greater access to serving shifts. No single metric determines the schedule; we look at the complete picture of how someone serves guests and supports the team. Required rotating support shifts This position is being hired under a new One Team, Every Task scheduling expectation. Every front-of-house employee will be expected to work support shifts on a rotating basis. Depending on the restaurant's needs, these may include: Hosting Barista Bussing Expo Food running The support assignment and rotation will be determined by management. As a general expectation, someone scheduled four or five days in a week should anticipate that one of those days may be a support shift. Employees who want more hours may be able to add a support shift—for example, working four serving shifts plus one support shift. Our highest-performing servers may sometimes receive five serving shifts and work a support shift every other week. We are still refining the exact rotation and frequency, so these examples are guidelines rather than guarantees. What is firm is that participating in support shifts is a required part of this role. We are introducing this expectation with new hires first and plan to transition the broader front-of-house team over time, with wider implementation expected by the new year. Why do we do this? Because One Team, Every Task must be more than a slogan. Working throughout the front of the house builds empathy, helps us understand what our teammates experience, allows experienced servers to model our standards, and keeps the restaurant running efficiently. Everyone's work matters, and everyone contributes to the guest experience. Interested? Apply via Indeed. Want to stand out with your application? Send us a message along with your application answering these questions: Tell us about a time you turned a new guest into a regular—or made someone's day through exceptional service. How do you recognize that a guest is unhappy even when they haven't complained? What does "One Team, Every Task" mean to you? What is your availability, including weekends and occasional after-hours events?
