Job Description
Description 100% ONSITE in Mountain View, CA We are looking for an experienced HR Director to lead and strengthen the people function for a growing technology organization in Mountain View, California. This Long-term Contract position calls for a hands-on leader who can balance strategic planning with day-to-day execution across core human resources operations. The person in this role will work closely with senior leadership to build scalable people practices, support a multi-state workforce, and foster a compliant, high-performing employee environment.
Responsibilities:
- Direct the full scope of human resources activities across the employee journey, including onboarding, employee support, benefits coordination, leave administration, compliance, and payroll oversight for a multi-state workforce.
- Collaborate with executives and department leaders to shape HR strategies that support business priorities, organizational growth, and operational effectiveness.
- Support corporate operations while partnering with HR leadership responsible for contracted workforce groups across multiple regions.
- Design and refine HR policies, programs, and internal processes that can scale effectively in a fast-moving, high-growth business environment.
- Advise managers and employees on workplace matters such as performance concerns, employee relations issues, investigations, and conflict resolution.
- Maintain adherence to applicable employment laws and regulations at the federal, state, provincial, and local levels, with particular attention to California labor requirements.
- Coordinate payroll-related activities with internal teams and external service providers to help ensure accuracy, timeliness, and proper documentation.
- Improve HR operational workflows by enhancing processes tied to employee records, onboarding, offboarding, and HR system usage and reporting.
- Lead initiatives that strengthen employee engagement, retention, organizational effectiveness, and company culture.
- Partner across functions, including operations, engineering, and leadership teams, to support workforce planning, talent strategy, and organizational design decisions. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- At least 7 years of progressive HR experience with responsibility spanning multiple human resources functions.
- Background leading or significantly supporting a broad HR function within a startup, scaling company, or other high-growth setting.
- Strong working knowledge of employee relations, HR administration, benefits, leave practices, compliance, compensation-related processes, and payroll coordination.
- Experience supporting employees across multiple states, with additional exposure to Canadian HR practices preferred.
- Ability to combine strategic thinking with hands-on execution in a leadership role that requires adaptability and initiative.
- Strong communication and business partnership skills, including experience working directly with executive and senior leadership teams.
- Experience with HR systems, reporting, and employee data analysis; HR certification is considered an advantage.
