Job Description

As we continue to grow, we are strengthening our Human Resources function and seeking an experienced HR Generalist who can confidently own payroll operations while supporting core HR processes that impact the employee experience every day. Position Summary The HR Generalist is a key member of the HR team responsible for the accurate, compliant, and timely processing of bi-weekly multi-state U.S. and Canadian payroll, while also supporting a broad range of human resources functions including benefits administration, onboarding, employee data management, and compliance. This role requires a hands-on professional with at least 5 years of progressive HR experience, including a minimum of 3 years of end-to-end payroll processing experience. The ideal candidate brings strong technical payroll expertise, a solid understanding of HR operations, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy and confidentiality. Key Responsibilities Payroll Administration Own and process bi-weekly, multi-state U.S. and Canadian payroll from start to finish, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. Maintain and audit payroll data including new hires, terminations, pay adjustments, deductions, garnishments, bonuses, and direct deposits. Reconcile time and attendance data and resolve discrepancies in partnership with managers and employees. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, provincial, and local wage and hour laws and tax regulations. Prepare payroll reports and support internal financial and HR reporting requirements. Manage payroll tax filings, remittances, and related government reporting obligations. Support year-end processes including W-2s, 1099s, T2200s, and other required filings. Respond to employee payroll inquiries with professionalism, accuracy, and urgency. Support internal and external audits related to payroll, compensation, and compliance. Human Resources Operations Support full-cycle onboarding including offer letters, background checks, I-9/E-Verify, and system setup. Maintain employee records and ensure accuracy of HRIS data across all employee lifecycle changes. Partner with employees and managers to respond to HR-related inquiries and provide policy guidance. Support employee relations activities by addressing routine matters and escalating appropriately when needed. Administer employee leave programs including FMLA, state leave, PTO, disability, and related claims tracking and documentation. Assist with HR compliance initiatives, reporting requirements, audits, and policy updates. Benefits Administration Administer employee benefits programs including enrollments, life events, and terminations. Support annual open enrollment activities including employee education, system updates, and vendor coordination. Serve as liaison between employees, carriers, and brokers to resolve benefits-related issues. Reconcile benefits invoices and support accurate payroll deductions and reporting. Assist with ACA reporting and compliance tracking requirements. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field required. Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years of hands-on end-to-end payroll processing experience. Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll compliance, wage and hour laws, and employment regulations. Experience administering employee benefits programs, including open enrollment and vendor coordination. Proficiency with HRIS/payroll systems (ADP, Paycom, Paylocity, Workday, Paychex, or similar). Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools. Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively across all levels of the organization. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism. HR or Payroll certification (SHRM-CP, PHR, FPC, or CPP) preferred. Experience supporting payroll conversions or HRIS implementations strongly preferred.
