Chief Engineer
Job Description
Chief Engineer Embassy Suites Hotel La Quinta, 146 rooms and 10 casitas, is currently seeking an experienced, hands-on Chief Engineer to join our team. The Chief Engineer is responsible along with the engineering team for maintaining all equipment, systems and building components, including, but not limited to, mechanical and electrical systems, pumps, HVAC systems, refrigeration, washer/dryers, plumbing, pool/spa equipment, locks, furniture, paint, wall coverings, tile and other equipment/work normally maintained/performed by hotel maintenance engineers. This position requires strong leadership skills and a willingness to work the necessary shifts as demanded by business levels. This candidate must possess great written and communications skills. This position requires prior Chief Engineer experience in a HOTEL environment. Our ideal candidate would have the following experience and abilities: Must have a minimum of 5 years of progressive management experience. Hotel maintenance engineering supervisory experience is a plus. Experience overseeing and participating in all levels of renovation projects. Experience overseeing, or working in partnership with, the hotel housekeeping department. HVAC certified us a must. Be bilingual English/Spanish (preferred). Be available and willing to work a various and/or flexible schedules. Have good computer skills along with good Microsoft Excel and Word skills. Experience maintaining an efficient Preventive Maintenance (PM) program. Enjoy hands-on repairs and maintenance projects and frequently perform these duties themselves based on business and scheduling demands. Experience ordering and maintaining par levels for standard operating items. Hilton brand experience (OnQ) is a plus.
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
Management and decision making for the day-to-day operation of the department. Overseeing the Maintenance Engineering staff members. Overseeing the overnight Security personnel. The ability to multi-task and manage several projects as demanded by business levels. This is a hands-on, working position requiring the skills, knowledge and ability to personally respond to calls and repair/maintain equipment while working alone and/or to delegate to staff, depending on the day-to-day changing needs of the organization.
• Responsibilities Responsible for the repair, maintenance and operation of all equipment, furnishings, systems and building components of the hotel facility Operates, repairs and maintains all operating equipment, including, but not limited to all pumps, motors, hot water boilers, chillers, etc. Operates, repairs and maintains all electrical systems, refrigeration systems and equipment. Paints all surface & equipment, makes minor wall covering repairs and minor furniture touch-up. Operates, repairs and maintains all hotel lighting and related equipment systems. Operates, repairs and maintains all plumbing and related equipment and systems. Repairs and maintains all hotel appliances, equipment and all repairs to housekeeping washers/dryers' equipment. Repairs and maintains all guest room furnishings, equipment and physical paint. Replaces light bulbs, fixtures, televisions and radios. Repairs and maintains lock and key system. Performs minor construction work. Performs necessary inspections and repairs to kitchen and restaurant equipment and furnishings. Any other related duties as assigned by the General Manager or Assistant GM. Maintain day to day documentation. Conduct performance evaluations. Trains staff. Holds weekly/monthly departmental meetings. Presents a pleasant and courteous demeanor with all hotel guests and hotel employees, contractors, and other visitors. Ensures that contacts with project contractors and vendors are conducted in a professional manner. Manage all projects associated with upgrades, renovations, etc.
EMPLOYEE RELATIONS
: Ability to work harmoniously with all other engineering personnel as well as all other hotel personnel. Must have a strong independent work ethoic.
MATERIAL & PRODUCTS
: Maintain par stocks of essential parts and associated materials and products used for operating, repairing and maintaining the hotel.
EQUIPMENT
: Responsible for proper operation and maintenance of all equipment and tools in the hotel.
ADMINISTRATIVE SKILLS
: Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Maintains accurate logs of equipment tests, (such as fire alarm systems, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, etc.) repair and preventative maintenance logs, monthly reports, daily walk reports, meter readings, etc.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
: Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate effectively in English with all departments, guests, and vendors. Ability to diplomatically deal with difficult situations and people, while exhibiting a consistent level of professionalism. Ability to also communicate in Spanish is strongly desired.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
: While performing the duties of this job, the candidate is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The candidate must regularly lift and/or move up to 10-25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Salary is somewhat negotiable based on experience. We perform E-Verify and pre-employment drug testing.
