Indianapolis, IN/Hybrid/Remote About the Role ARI is a mission-driven nonprofit that brings together industry, academia, and government to execute complex initiatives advancing technology, economic development, and national competitiveness. Largely this is done through the design, implementation, and management of programs for government customers, with the support of a robust operations team on a shared-services model. While we currently utilize a PEO, we are a fast-growing organization which has seen employee headcount grow nearly 400% over the past four years. As we grow, we recognize the need to start implementing more complex human resources systems and processes, and are establishing a new Vice President-level position to oversee this function as we continue to grow. While we have a strong foundation in place, this is an opportunity to shape and build an HR function largely from the ground up. The position will report to our Chief Operating Officer and serve as a member of the organization's Senior Leadership Team to ensure the role is empowered to build an HR structure aligned to our growth trajectory and mission. What You'll Do Initially manage one or two direct reports, but with the ability to add additional capacity as the company grows. Coach and mentor staff who are interested in growing their own development as HR professionals, including advising and supporting them through continuing education and certification opportunities. Serve as the senior HR voice in leadership discussions, advising the COO and other senior leaders on organizational design and workforce planning, as well as on identified HR risk. Develop and track relevant metrics to inform leadership decision-making, particularly in ensuring operations team have the capacity and competencies necessary to support a wide variety of sometimes disparate programs. Own the company's HR strategy across six functional areas: Talent acquisition; policies and compliance; ongoing professional development; performance management; conflict resolution; and employee compensation, benefits, and engagement. Own and manage the relationship with our PEO, ensuring the company is getting full value from the services provided Ensure organizational compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment law Own policy development and maintenance, including the employee handbook Provide strategic oversight of full-cycle recruiting and onboarding Build a framework for employee relations and conflict resolution to better investigate and resolve employee complaints, workplace conflicts, and disciplinary matters Help identify and build professional development pathways for employees that are both internal and external to the organization as a whole Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience). Active SPHR, SHRM-SCP, or equivalent senior-level HR certification. At least 8-10 years in of progressive HR experience, including at least 3-5 years in a senior leadership (ideally HR director/VP-level) role. Demonstrated experience building or scaling an HR function, ideally in a growing company transitioning from a small/informal HR setup to a more structured one. Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment law and compliance requirements (e.g., FMLA, ADA, EEO, etc.). Experience managing and developing direct reports. Preferred Qualifications Experience managing employer-of-record/PEO relationships, including evaluating vendor performance. Experience designing performance management systems and manager-coaching programs. Familiarity with compensations benchmarking and pay equity analysis. Track record of developing junior HR staff towards certification or more advanced roles. Experience presenting HR strategy, metrics, or risk analysis to executive leadership or a board. Salary:
$170,000 - $200,000 depending on level of experience
