Job Description

Description We are looking for a Benefits Manager to support a busy benefits function for an organization in Washington, District of Columbia. This long-term contract position will play a key role in managing open enrollment activity, addressing employee benefit inquiries, and strengthening day-to-day administration across health, welfare, and retirement programs. The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of compliance and audit practices and can work confidently in a high-volume environment while ensuring accuracy and a positive employee experience.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead major open enrollment activities, including setup, coordination, and review of benefit elections in a high-volume environment.
  • Respond to employee and stakeholder questions about medical, welfare, leave, and retirement offerings with clear and timely guidance.
  • Oversee administration of health and welfare plans to help ensure accurate processing and consistent policy application.
  • Support compliance efforts by reviewing benefit practices, preparing documentation, and assisting with audit-related requests.
  • Administer retirement benefit programs, including retirement plans, and provide support related to 403(b) offerings when needed.
  • Analyze benefit-related data and transactions to identify discrepancies, recommend corrections, and improve operational accuracy.
  • Partner with internal teams to maintain benefit configurations in Workday and support enrollment-related system activity as required.
  • Contribute to ongoing benefits coordination by helping align program delivery, employee communications, and issue resolution. Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience managing employee benefits programs, with strong exposure to health and welfare administration.
  • Hands-on knowledge of open enrollment operations, especially in fast-paced or high-volume settings.
  • Familiarity with benefits compliance standards, audit support, and documentation best practices.
  • Experience working with retirement programs, including retirement plans; 403(b) knowledge is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Workday or a comparable HRIS used for benefits administration and configuration support.
  • Understanding of FMLA and related leave processes within a broader benefits function.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to review benefit data, resolve issues, and maintain accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain benefit information clearly to employees and stakeholders.
