Job Description
A leading not-for-profit mental health agency headquartered in Altamont, NY is seeking an experienced HR Manager to oversee employee benefits and leave administration for approximately 600 benefit-eligible employees across 20 counties in New York State. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HR professional who combines strong benefits expertise, attention to detail, regulatory knowledge, and a commitment to providing exceptional service to employees.
Hours and Benefits:
- Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week
- Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance coverage offered 1st of month following employment
- 401k Retirement Plan
- Paid holidays, vacation, sick and personal time
Salary:
- $85,000 - $100,000
Annually HR Manager Responsibilities:
Oversight of the day-to-day administration and ongoing management of the organization's employee benefit programs, including:- 401(k) retirement plan, including plan administration, employee inquiries, vendor coordination, compliance, and regulatory requirements
- Health insurance

- Employee benefits enrollment, eligibility, changes, and issue resolution
- Coordination and oversight of benefits vendors, third-party administrators, and service providers
- Monitoring benefit plan compliance and assisting with required audits, reporting, and regulatory filings
- Developing employee communications and educational materials regarding benefit programs
- Serving as a knowledgeable resource to employees and managers regarding benefits, eligibility, enrollment, and plan provisions
- Identifying opportunities to improve benefit processes, employee experience, and administrative efficiency Oversight of employee leaves of absence, including:
- FMLA and NYSPFL
- Agency provided leaves of absence
- Ensuring accurate tracking, documentation, employee communication, and timely coordination with payroll, benefits, managers, and external vendors
- Maintaining compliance with applicable federal and New York State laws and regulations. HR Manager Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- At least 5 years of progressive HR experience, including demonstrated managerial or supervisory responsibility
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered
- Significant hands-on experience administering and/or overseeing employee benefit programs, including health, dental, vision, FSA, retirement plans, and EAP programs
- Demonstrated experience with 401(k) plan administration and familiarity with applicable retirement plan regulations, including
ERISA, IRS
requirements, and Department of Labor regulations- Experience administering or overseeing FMLA and NYS PFL and other employee leaves
- Experience with benefits or HRIS systems and electronic benefits enrollment platforms
- Experience working with benefits brokers, retirement plan providers, third-party administrators, and other benefit vendors
- Strong knowledge of Federal and New York State employment and benefits laws and regulations
- Demonstrated ability to interpret plan documents, policies, regulations, and vendor materials and provide guidance for employees and managers
- Experience maintaining confidential employee information and exercising sound judgment when handling sensitive personnel matters
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels of an organization
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office/Excel and HRIS and benefits administration systems
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced, multi-site environment HR Manager Preferred Qualifications SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR or CEBS certification
