at Department of Transportation in Springfield, Illinois, United States Job Description Essential Functions Under direction, serves as a Payroll and Benefits Representative in completing professional human resources assignments and tasks for assigned central offices. Processes all central office HR personnel transactions related to timekeeping, payroll, wage adjustments, status changes, and retirement. Reviews to ensure accurate processing of payrolls and related personnel actions, and maintains current and accurate personnel files and salary records. Serves as a liaison and provides guidance and assistance to department employees, bureau staff, and others regarding benefits, leaves of absence, FMLA and other related inquiries. Provides orientation on insurance, retirement/deferred compensation, and timekeeping. Maintains timekeeping records through the utilization of computer systems and periodic record audits. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope for the duties enumerated above. Minimum Qualifications Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college. Requires one year of professional experience, preferably in human resources, or satisfactory completion of an approved training program. Preferred Qualifications Prefers one (1) year of experience processing timekeeping, payroll, benefits and various types of leave of absences transactions. Prefers one (1) year of experience facilitating pre-hire paperwork and assisting with new hire orientation. Prefers advanced skill in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Prefers advanced skill in utilizing video conferencing platforms like Webex and Microsoft Teams. Prefers basic skill in utilizing mainframe systems and/or web-based, cloud hosted HRIS applications.
