Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The Human Resources Manager directs the School's HR functions, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and benefits administration. The Manager ensures legal compliance, develops policies, and align staff talent with strategic goals and the needs of the School and its programs. Additionally, the Manager monitors and supports training needs and programs, succession planning, compensation management, benefits administration and compliance. HR Managers oversee the employee performance evaluation processes and develop initiatives designed to increase retention, improve the employee experience, and supporting a positive workplace culture that aligns with the School's mission, vision, and values.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 Responsible for maintaining up to date personnel records for all employees and ensuring that such records are properly input into Paylocity (or the current human resources information system), including state requirements for instructional staff such as teacher certification, college transcripts, and immunizations, and send reminders if certifications are expiring or additional required records, maintaining rosters of employees and years of service records, and producing regular reports (e.g. headcounts, demographics, retention, and other required reporting) as requested  Develops and oversees a smooth onboarding process for new employees, ensuring that all required background checks are completed and reviewed, state-mandated training is completed, health and immunization records are collected, and that all other needs to bring on a new employee are met smoothly, professionally and in a welcoming fashion  Assists hiring managers in the hiring process to fill open positions, including reviews of job descriptions, salary surveys, job postings, and the screening of candidates  Prepares Employment Agreements for Certified Instructional staff, prepares Sacred Call packets using LCMS-approved forms for offers to Minsters of the Gospel, and assists in the preparation and collection of contracts for coaches and other seasonal staff, and assists in drafting official letters and communications for employees and prospective employees  Oversees the time tracking process for hourly employees and verifies each payroll for completeness and accuracy of time, rates, and additional payments due  Manages the tracking of attendance, workloads, time off requests, and balances, and processes related to any of the approved leaves from work  Oversees the maintenance of the Employee Handbook, recommending changes to the Handbooks and/or institutional policies related to employees and employment procedures, and ensures the faithful implementation of such policies and procedures, including the development of any forms or guidelines  Ensures that a functional employee performance appraisal process is maintained and that documented annual performance appraisals are conducted for all staff, supporting the managers in this process  In coordination with the Finance Director and Head of School, serves as the School's plan administrator, leads the annual renewal process for employee benefit plans with brokers/underwriters, providing schedules and reports as needed to inform this process, and then ensures that information about benefits and the benefit elections process is conducted annually  Responsible for monitoring workplace safety and the processing of any Worker's Compensation claims, and any follow through with employees with claims and perform annual audits of Worker's Compensation for insurance policy renewal  Prepare and file all required regulatory and government reports related to personnel and employment law compliance and for required LCMS school statistics reporting  Keep current on applicable Federal and State employment laws and recommended best practice for faith-based non-profit employers, ensuring that the School is in compliance with these laws and recommended practices and the required notices (OSHA, Workers Compensation, Fair Labor Standards, etc) are communicated to employees  Produce appropriate awards/certificates annually for retirements and end-of-year recognition of staff and faculty, acknowledging years of service, and lead in the planning for the periodic employee meetings, lunch events and new hire orientation events  Provides assistance to employees as needed to support their professional health and wellbeing and their ability to function in their position, observing for any training needs or recommending additional services that are available to assist employees, including conflict resolution between employees  May also be required to assist with other projects and events as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
 Bachelor's degree required, preferably in business/management or human resource management  Minimum of 5 or more years of progressively responsible accounting duties, preferably with knowledge of faith-based employers and educational employer requirements; SHRM or similar certification a plus  Advanced proficiency with online employee management and payroll systems such as Paylocity, and Microsoft Excel, and proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint  Proven management success in an outcomes-oriented environment and ability to be effective in working with many details in a multitasking, multi-site environment  Excellent written and oral communication, organizational, and motivational skills including the ability to effectively communicate with Trustees, parents, and other external constituents in a professional manner  Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, including weekends, weeknights, and weekends in support of events and school or association activities related to fundraising and handling cash  Fully accepts our belief statement and actively exhibits these Christian values and behavior in all they say and do, agreeing to limit their personal expression to remain in alignment with the school's stated religious beliefs and according to our agreement with The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, under which we are a Recognized Service Organization.  Must be a member of and in regular attendance at a Christian congregation, a Lutheran church preferred
