You have knowledge of applicable US and Canadian employment legislation and State/Provincial employment standards. The HR Generalist provides comprehensive human resources support across the employee lifecycle and serves as a key resource for employees and leaders. This role is responsible for recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, payroll and benefits support, policy administration, health and safety, HR compliance, and employee engagement. The HR Generalist works closely with management to ensure HR practices support business objectives while maintaining compliance with applicable provincial, federal, State employment legislation. Key Responsibilities Recruitment & Talent Acquisition Manage full-cycle recruitment for hourly, salaried, technical, administrative, and leadership positions. Partner with hiring managers to identify staffing requirements and develop recruitment strategies. Prepare and post job advertisements and proactively source qualified candidates. Screen applicants, conduct interviews, coordinate additional interviews, and support candidate selection. Prepare employment offers and coordinate pre-employment requirements. Develop and maintain candidate pipelines for difficult-to-fill and high-demand positions. Track recruitment metrics, including time-to-fill, turnover, source effectiveness, and hiring trends. Support workforce planning and succession planning initiatives. Onboarding & Employee Lifecycle Coordinate new-hire onboarding and orientation. Prepare employment documentation and maintain accurate employee records. Ensure new employees complete required policies, training, payroll, benefits, and health and safety documentation. Conduct probationary and onboarding follow-ups. Coordinate employee transfers, promotions, compensation changes, leaves, and terminations. Conduct exit interviews and identify trends affecting employee retention. Employee Relations Provide guidance to employees and managers regarding workplace concerns, policies, performance, attendance, and conduct. Support the resolution of employee complaints and workplace conflicts. Conduct or assist with workplace investigations and maintain appropriate documentation. Coach managers on effective employee communication and progressive performance management. Promote consistent and fair application of company policies and procedures. Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive employee matters. Performance Management Support managers with performance reviews, coaching, corrective action, and performance improvement plans. Assist leaders in establishing clear performance expectations and measurable goals. Identify recurring performance or attendance concerns and recommend appropriate action. Support leadership development and manager training initiatives. Payroll, Benefits & HR Administration Support payroll administration and ensure employee information is accurate and submitted within required deadlines. Maintain employee records, compensation information, vacation balances, leaves, and employment status changes. Administer or support employee benefits and retirement programs. Respond to employee questions regarding payroll, benefits, vacation, and company programs. Prepare employment-related documentation, including Records of Employment where applicable. Maintain HRIS data and ensure employee files meet record-retention and privacy requirements. Employment Standards & Compliance Maintain working knowledge of applicable US and Canadian employment legislation and provincial employment standards. Ensure HR policies and practices comply with applicable employment standards, human rights, privacy, occupational health and safety, and workers' compensation requirements. Monitor legislative changes and recommend updates to policies and procedures. Assist with accommodation and return-to-work processes. Maintain accurate and confidential HR documentation. Health & Safety Support the organization's occupational health and safety program. Assist with workplace incident reporting, investigations, corrective actions, and return-to-work programs. Support Joint Health and Safety Committees or workplace health and safety representatives where required. Coordinate required safety training and maintain training records. Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the organization. Employee Engagement & Retention Develop initiatives to improve employee engagement, communication, and retention. Conduct employee surveys, pulse checks, and stay interviews. Analyze turnover and employee feedback to identify trends and recommend solutions. Support recognition programs, employee events, and culture initiatives. Partner with leadership to strengthen employee experience and organizational culture. Qualifications Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. Approximately 3-5 years of progressive HR experience , preferably in a generalist capacity. Strong knowledge of Canadian and US employment legislation and applicable provincial employment standards. Experience with recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and HR administration. Experience supporting payroll, benefits, health and safety, and workplace investigations is an asset. CPHR designation or progress toward CPHR designation is considered an asset. Skills & Competencies Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
