Job Description Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, The Payroll / HR Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely administration of the Club's bi-weekly payroll and supports day-to-day Human Resources operations. The position is approximately a 50/50 split between payroll administration and Human Resources support. The Payroll / HR Specialist serves as a primary resource for employees regarding payroll and HR-related questions and must demonstrate a high degree of accuracy, confidentiality, judgment, and customer service. This role maintains employee records, coordinates onboarding and benefits administration, responds to employee inquiries, and helps ensure compliance with company policies and applicable employment requirements. The Payroll / HR Specialist has primary responsibility for the Club's bi-weekly payroll process. Responsibilities include reviewing time and attendance records for accuracy, identifying and resolving payroll discrepancies, processing employee changes and payroll adjustments, and ensuring payroll is completed accurately and on schedule. The Payroll / HR Specialist works closely with department managers to resolve timekeeping issues, assists employees with payroll-related questions, maintains accurate payroll records, reviews payroll reports, and helps ensure compliance with California wage and hour requirements. In addition to payroll responsibilities, the Payroll / HR Specialist supports the day-to-day administration of the Human Resources department and serves as a first point of contact for employees, applicants, and vendors. Responsibilities include maintaining employee records within Paycom and the Club's document management system, coordinating employee onboarding and new-hire orientation with the Director of Human Resources, reviewing and auditing new-hire information for completeness and accuracy, assisting with benefits administration, responding to employment verification requests, maintaining DMV motor vehicle reports and compliance certificates, reporting workers' compensation injuries and illnesses to the Club's carrier and monitoring claim status, and maintaining related confidential documentation. The position also aids full-cycle recruitment for hourly positions, including maintaining internal and external job postings, reviewing applications, conducting initial phone screens, coordinating interviews with hiring managers, scheduling background checks, checking references, and supporting the new-hire process. The Payroll / HR Specialist also assists with employee recognition programs, team-building activities, special projects, and other duties as assigned. The Payroll / HR Specialist must demonstrate excellent judgment and maintain strict confidentiality while managing sensitive payroll, personnel, medical, and employment-related information. Qualifications Minimum one year of payroll processing experience required. California payroll experience strongly preferred. Experience using Paycom or another HRIS/payroll system preferred. Strong working knowledge of payroll practices and California wage and hour requirements. Prior Human Resources administration experience preferred. Strong attention to detail and skill in verifying the accuracy and completeness of payroll records, forms, and reports. Ability to establish and maintain priorities, meet recurring deadlines, and work independently without detailed instructions. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel and the ability to learn and use other software that The Bridges may acquire. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive employee information. Bilingual English/Spanish highly preferred. Physical Requirements The successful candidate must be able to fulfill the physical demands of the job, including walking, stooping, sitting, bending, reaching for overhead files, and occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds.
