Hinterland Group is hiring a Human Resources Compliance Specialist. Position will be responsible for ensuring an organization adheres to federal, state, and local employment laws, manages regulatory risks, and maintains legal employee handbooks and records. Responsible for benefits and compliance of benefits.
Key Responsibilities Policy Management:
Draft, review, and update employee handbooks, standard operating procedures, and company policies to reflect current labor legislation.
Regulatory Audits:
Lead internal audits on I-9 documentation, worker classifications (exempt/non-exempt), record retention, and payroll practices.
Compliance Tracking:
Monitor changes in federal, state, and local regulations (such as EEOC, FLSA, FMLA, ADA, and OSHA) and coordinate implementation.
Training & Reporting:
Partner with Learning & Development to build staff training, file regulatory reports (like EEO or census data), and manage remediation plans for compliance gaps.
Investigations & Support:
Assist with internal investigations regarding policy breaches and liaise with legal counsel or external auditors as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements Education:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Legal Studies, or a related discipline.
Experience:
3 to 5+ years of operational HR or compliance experience.
Core Skills:
Deep knowledge of employment laws, high attention to detail, strong data analysis abilities, and proficiency with HRIS or compliance tracking systems.
Preferred Credentials:
Professional certifications like SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR.
