$54,000-$63,000 Hesed House is a faith-based organization and a national model for ending homelessness. Open 24/7, 365 days a year, we serve more than 1,000 people annually through shelter, supportive housing, and a Comprehensive Resource Center.
Our mission:

Reporting to the Division Director of Operations you'll support the full employee lifecycle, from hiring and onboarding to benefits, training, and recognition, for a team of approximately 85 employees who keep our doors open around the clock. This is a great fit for an HR professional who wants broad, hands-on experience in a mission-driven setting. You'll work closely with program directors and managers and serve as a trusted, go-to resource for staff. What you'll do: Manage full-cycle recruiting for frontline, program, and administrative roles, partnering with hiring managers from posting through offer Coordinate background checks, DCFS clearances, reference checks, and employment eligibility verification Lead new hire orientation and create a consistent onboarding experience across programs and shifts Help plan and run employee recognition and engagement programs Support day-to-day administration of payroll inputs, benefits enrollment, and leave, and help employees navigate their benefits Track required training, certifications, and licensures, and follow up to keep staff current Answer employee and applicant questions, escalating sensitive matters to HR leadership Maintain accurate, confidential employee records in ADP Workforce Now and prepare routine HR reports Other duties as assigned You'll Thrive Here If You… Are organized, detail-oriented, and good at juggling priorities and deadlines Communicate clearly and warmly with people at every level Use sound judgment and handle confidential information with integrity Want your work to support a meaningful mission What you Bring Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, or a related field 2-3 years of human resources experience, ideally including recruiting and benefits administration Working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices Proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort learning HRIS and applicant tracking systems SHRM-CP or PHR, nonprofit or human services experience preferred, Spanish/English bilingual skills a plus What Success Looks Like In your first year, you'll become a trusted resource for staff and managers, keep hiring moving for critical roles, and help make onboarding and training tracking more consistent and efficient across our programs. Schedule Full-time and onsite in Aurora, IL, generally 9 to 5PM, with occasional flexibility to support staff across shifts in our 24/7 operation.
