The Specialist recruits and enrolls eligible students; conducts assessments; develops and monitors Individual Action Plans (IAPs); provides academic, career, financial-aid, college and workforce advising; monitors student progress; connects students to tutoring and other interventions; and maintains timely service documentation. The position also supports Registered Apprenticeships, industry credentials, Learning and Employment Records (LERs), digital learner wallets, Edmentum Exact Path, Khan, Migo, and other approved college/career tools. Regular travel and participation in school-day, after-school, evening, weekend, summer, college-tour, and special-event activities are essential. Required Education Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Student Affairs, or a related field. Coursework or training in student retention, academic advising, counseling, college access, or youth development preferred. Required Experience At least one year providing direct educational outreach services to disadvantaged students. Experience working as an advisor and with middle/high school students; TRIO experience preferred. Experience serving low-income, first-generation, academically at-risk, or otherwise disadvantaged students strongly preferred. Essential Job Functions Recruit eligible participants through presentations, referrals, interviews, parent outreach, school partnerships, and community outreach; assist families with applications and eligibility documentation. Maintain an assigned caseload; conduct needs assessments and transcript/grade reviews; develop and update IAPs; provide individual and group advising. Monitor grades, attendance, credits, persistence, graduation progress, rigorous-course participation, and academic risk; connect students to tutoring and other interventions. Provide college, financial-aid, career, apprenticeship, credential, dual-credit, and workforce-pathway support; help students compare pathway costs, debt, earnings, and career fit. Assist students with LER/digital wallets, badges, micro-credentials, and verified skill documentation. Participate in workshops, parent meetings, college/career tours, summer activities, and special events; maintain accurate service notes, records, and required reports. Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians and school staff regarding student progress, missing documentation, upcoming services, and intervention needs. Knowledge & Skills Required Strong oral/written communication, relationship-building, follow-up, organization, and caseload management. Ability to advise students from disadvantaged backgrounds and work effectively with families and school personnel. Proficiency with office technology, databases, online student-support tools, and ability to learn approved AI/tutoring/LER platforms. Ability to maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines, work independently and as part of a team, travel, and work nontraditional hours.
