We are in search of a Human Resources Generalist to join our Home Office HR team and support the day-to-day human resources operations of Merritt Clubs. This position is ideal for an experienced HR professional who enjoys working directly with employees and managers, solving problems, processing payroll, administering HR systems, supporting recruiting and onboarding, and helping ensure a positive and compliant employee experience across our clubs. The Human Resources Generalist will serve as a trusted resource to employees and managers while maintaining a high level of confidentiality, professionalism, accuracy, and customer service. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-location environment and handling a broad range of HR responsibilities from employee relations and payroll to benefits, compliance, recruiting, and HRIS administration. Job Duties and Responsibilities Below are the primary Duties and Responsibilities that will be the basis on which job performance is measured. Support Employees and Managers by serving as a knowledgeable and responsive resource for day-to-day HR questions involving company policies, procedures, payroll, benefits, attendance, leave, performance, employee relations, and other employment matters. Manage Employee Relations by responding to employee concerns, workplace complaints, performance issues, attendance concerns, policy violations, and other employee-related matters. Conduct appropriate fact-finding, document relevant information, and partner with HR leadership and management to determine appropriate next steps. Interpret and Communicate HR Policies by explaining company policies, procedures, employment practices, and applicable workplace requirements to employees and managers in a clear, consistent, and professional manner. Process Payroll accurately and timely, including reviewing and auditing timekeeping information, processing payroll changes, reviewing hours and earnings, entering employee updates, addressing payroll discrepancies, and partnering with appropriate internal and external resources to resolve payroll issues. Maintain Payroll Accuracy by reviewing payroll reports, identifying discrepancies, researching errors, and ensuring employee pay, deductions, status changes, and other payroll-related information are accurately reflected in the payroll system. Utilize Paycom to support HR and payroll processes, including employee records, onboarding, timekeeping, payroll, reporting, and other applicable HR functions. Paycom HRIS experience is strongly preferred. Maintain Confidential Employee Records by accurately organizing, updating, and maintaining personnel files and HR documentation while protecting sensitive employee information and exercising appropriate confidentiality. Coordinate Recruiting and Hiring by partnering with hiring managers to identify staffing needs, post positions, review applications, coordinate interviews, communicate with candidates, facilitate hiring processes, and ensure required employment documentation is completed. Support New Hire Onboarding by coordinating the new hire process, completing required employment documentation, facilitating orientations, ensuring timely system access and enrollment, and helping new employees understand company policies, benefits, expectations, and available resources. Administer Employee Changes by accurately processing promotions, transfers, pay changes, department changes, status changes, leaves, terminations, and other employment-related transactions in the HRIS and applicable systems. Manage Employee Separations by coordinating termination procedures, completing required documentation, conducting or coordinating exit interviews when appropriate, communicating applicable information to employees and managers, and ensuring HRIS and personnel records are accurately updated. Support Benefits Administration by assisting employees with benefit questions, eligibility, enrollment, qualifying life events, deductions, and general benefits administration. Partner with benefit vendors and HR leadership to resolve employee issues and maintain accurate records. Administer Leave and Attendance Processes by assisting with employee leave requests, maintaining appropriate documentation, monitoring applicable deadlines, communicating requirements to employees and managers, and escalating complex leave matters to HR leadership as appropriate. Monitor Compliance by maintaining knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local employment requirements and supporting HR processes designed to maintain compliance with employment laws, regulations, and company policies. Maintain Required Employment Documentation including I-9s, employment records, policy acknowledgments, certifications, training records, benefit documentation, and other required personnel information. Support Performance Management by assisting managers with performance documentation, corrective action, performance improvement processes, employee coaching, and other performance-related matters in accordance with company guidelines. Recruit and Retain Talent by supporting recruiting initiatives, developing effective candidate pipelines, coordinating interviews, communicating with candidates, and helping managers identify qualified candidates for open positions. Coordinate HR Communications by preparing and distributing employee communications, policy updates, HR announcements, reminders, forms, and other information as directed by HR leadership. Prepare HR Reports by generating, reviewing, and analyzing HRIS and payroll reports related to staffing, turnover, attendance, payroll, employee status, benefits, and other HR metrics. Identify discrepancies and communicate trends or concerns to HR leadership. Audit HR Data by regularly reviewing employee and payroll information for accuracy, identifying inconsistencies, and taking corrective action to maintain reliable HR records. Support HR Projects by assisting with company-wide HR initiatives, policy updates, employee engagement programs, benefits projects, compliance initiatives, system implementations, training programs, and other projects assigned by HR leadership. Provide Exceptional Internal Customer Service by responding to employee and manager questions promptly, professionally, and with appropriate discretion while balancing employee needs with company policies and business requirements. Maintain Professional Confidentiality by appropriately handling sensitive information related to employee performance, compensation, investigations, medical or leave information, payroll, disciplinary matters, and other confidential HR matters. Stay Current on HR Practices by maintaining knowledge of changes in employment laws, HR practices, payroll requirements, benefits, compliance obligations, and HR technology relevant to the position. Identify Process Improvements by evaluating existing HR processes, identifying opportunities for increased efficiency and accuracy, and recommending improvements to HR leadership. Support a Positive Employee Experience by helping create an organized, responsive, professional, and employee-focused HR environment across all Merritt Clubs locations. Position Requirements Required Experience 2+ years of professional experience working within a Human Resources department, highly preferred. Direct, hands-on experience processing payroll is required. Paycom experience HIGHLY preferred. Direct experience handling day-to-day employee relations matters is required , including employee questions, performance concerns, attendance issues, policy questions, workplace complaints, and other employee issues. Experience maintaining employee records and working within an HRIS is required. Experience with recruiting, hiring, onboarding, employee separations, and HR administration. Experience handling confidential employee information with a high degree of discretion and professionalism. Experience working in a multi-location or fast-paced organization is preferred. Experience with timekeeping and payroll systems is strongly preferred. Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred; equivalent HR experience may be considered. Work Schedule This is a full-time position, 40 hour per week position. The Human Resources Generalist must be available to work a standard business schedule with flexibility as needed to support Merritt Clubs' multiple locations, employees, managers, payroll deadlines, HR initiatives, and occasional meetings or events outside of standard business hours.
