HR Generalist -
Benefits & Operations Location:
Salem, MA Schedule:
Hybrid, 3 days per week onsite
Salary:
$75,000-$80,000 per year A mission-driven organization is seeking an HR Generalist to join its growing Human Resources team. This position will have a strong focus on benefits administration and leave management while also supporting a broad range of HR functions throughout the employee lifecycle. The ideal candidate will be comfortable serving as a resource to employees and managers, managing confidential information, coordinating with benefit vendors, and ensuring HR processes and employee records remain accurate and compliant. Key Responsibilities Benefits Administration Administer employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement, FSA, HSA, and wellness programs. Manage new hire enrollments, qualifying life events, and annual open enrollment. Serve as a primary resource for employees regarding benefits eligibility, plan options, and enrollment. Coordinate benefit changes, terminations, and continuation of coverage. Reconcile monthly benefit invoices and resolve discrepancies with vendors and carriers. Maintain accurate benefits and employee information within the organization's HR/payroll systems. Prepare employment and benefits verification documentation. Develop and distribute employee communications regarding benefits, wellness programs, and plan updates. Leave Administration Administer leaves of absence, including FMLA, state family and medical leave programs, ADA accommodations, military leave, bereavement, and personal leave. Monitor leave eligibility, documentation, schedules, and return-to-work processes. Partner with employees, managers, and external administrators to ensure leave processes are handled consistently and in compliance with applicable regulations. Maintain confidential leave records and documentation. Onboarding & Offboarding Coordinate and lead new hire orientation, including HR policies, benefits, and time-off information. Coordinate onboarding logistics, paperwork, system access, and required training. Support employees through the offboarding process, including benefits continuation, final pay information, and return of company property. Ensure employee changes are communicated to payroll and other appropriate departments in a timely manner. Track employee feedback and identify opportunities to improve onboarding and offboarding processes. General HR Support Maintain accurate and confidential personnel records and HR system data. Respond to employee questions regarding HR policies, procedures, benefits, and programs. Assist managers with employee relations and policy-related questions. Support performance management, employee engagement, and retention initiatives. Assist with employment verifications, audits, reporting, and other HR administrative needs. Compliance & Reporting Support compliance with federal and state employment and benefits regulations. Assist with annual reporting, audits, census reporting, and benefits compliance requirements. Prepare HR and benefits reports and assist with analyzing trends. Maintain strict confidentiality of employee and HR information. Vendor & Project Support Serve as a point of contact for benefit carriers, brokers, retirement plan administrators, and other external vendors. Assist with evaluating benefit programs and identifying opportunities for improvement. Participate in HR projects, process improvements, and system implementations. Provide additional HR support as needed. Qualifications 2+ years of HR Generalist or related HR experience, with hands-on benefits and/or leave administration experience. Working knowledge of employee benefits, FMLA, ADA, and applicable state leave requirements. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate, confidential employee records. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment. Experience working with an HRIS/payroll system preferred. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Interested? Questions?
