Peer Specialist are individuals with lived experience who have sustained recovery from a mental and/or substanceuse disorder. They assist individuals seeking recovery navigate a crisis, reduce symptoms, as well as providesupport and advocacy. Activities include mentoring, advocating, leading individual and/or recovery groups andbuilding relationships. Peer Specialist model recovery, promotes shared understanding, focus on strengths, offerpositive coping strategies, and provide information and resources. Peer services are supplemental to other crisisservices an individual may receive.
Additionally, Peer Specialist will assist clients in articulating personal goals for recovery and supports clients inidentifying and creating goals and developing recovery plans with the skills, strengths, supports and resources toaid them in achieving those goals. Models effective coping techniques and self-help strategies. Assist inobtaining services that suit that individual's recovery needs. Assist clients in developing empowerment skills andcombating stigma through self-advocacy. Works under moderate supervision with minimal latitude for the useof initiative and independent judgment.
