08/24/2026 The American School for the Deaf (ASD) is the oldest school for the deaf, founded in 1817 by Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet and Laurent Clerc. The American School for the Deaf is committed to serving deaf and hard of hearing infants, youth, and their families in development of intellect and the enhancement of quality of life utilizing specially designed instruction through an American Sign Language and English Bilingual Approach, empowering them to become educated and self-directed life-long learners. ASD is located in West Hartford, a town recognized as one of the top ten towns for raising families. West Hartford residents value education, evidenced by the high quality of public and private schools. There is also much to do in West Hartford. There is a wide array of parks and recreation. There are pools and hiking trails. There are historic sites to visit as well. SCOPE OF DUTIES
The Human Resources Staffing and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Coordinator manages full life cycle recruiting for assigned openings; posts jobs, schedules interviews and manages logistics of same, participates in the interview process, and guides candidates through the hiring process to selection. Coordinator will use AI tools such as ChatGPT to assist in writing fair, accurate, and consistent job descriptions with input from hiring managers. In addition, this role will research local wage data for fair and competitive wage data as needed for recommendation while working within designed budgets. Finally, this position - along with all members of the HR team - will help plan, support and participate in all HR initiatives across the organization.
PRIMARY DUTIES
: Full life cycle recruiting for non-exempt or exempt single and multi-incumbent positions, managing logistics and completion of due diligence for these roles. Conducts background checks, credential checks and employee eligibility verifications. Manages due diligence for these hires including in-state and out-of-state child protective services checks, reference checking, etc. Posts ASD open positions to specific external websites as instructed. Manages the interview process for internal and external applicants for assigned openings; participates in the interview process as required and makes recommendations regarding qualified applicants. Utilizes AI to consistently format job descriptions and postings for a consistent and unified look. Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law. Provides HR customer service support to internal and external customers. Assists/participates in company-wide committees as requested by HR Manager to include wellness, training, environmental health and safety, activity, and culture and communications. Organizes and maintains personnel records to ensure compliance; performs filing in a timely manner. Collaborates with team members and assists in general areas of HR as needed. Ensure employment compliance within all areas of responsibility adhering to applicable laws, policies, collective bargaining agreements, and ASD policy and procedure. Identify engagement and retention opportunities and bring possible solutions to HR team for evaluation.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
: Team oriented outlook; willingness to be "all-in" with a hard-working, friendly and awesome HR team. High degree of integrity and evidence of practicing high level of confidentiality. Critical thinking, sound judgment and the ability to appropriately manage confidential and sensitive information. Working knowledge of HR disciplines - recruiting, compensation, benefits administration, new hire compliance, orientation, training, etc. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Understanding of market pay rates. Knowledge of prompting AI for results requested, keeping in mind the tone and culture of the organization. Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail. Strong computer skills in Microsoft environment; Google Docs; ADP Workforce Now experience. Minimum of three years of experience in Human Resources. Bachelor's Degree and/or HR Certification preferred. Familiarity with a Union environment is helpful but not required. Proficiency in American Sign Language highly desired; interest in learning ASL required.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Group health insurance and other fringe benefits are available. $1000 sign on bonus after one year of service for newly hired employees, not applicable for re-hires. ASD is ALL ways able.
