Independent Living Skills Instructor (Life Skills Coach) MorrrHeart Services | Ventura County, CA Part-Time | $22-$25 per hour, based on experience Make a Meaningful Difference—With a Flexible Schedule MorrrHeart Services is looking for a dependable, compassionate, and motivated Independent Living Skills Instructor to provide one-on-one support to adults with developmental disabilities. This is a flexible, community-based position—not a facility-based caregiving position. Instructors work independently with individuals in their homes and throughout the community, helping them build practical skills, confidence, and greater independence. Services are provided Monday through Saturday. Your schedule will be arranged in advance based on both your availability and the schedules of the individuals you support. Weekly hours may vary depending on your availability, assigned caseload, and client needs. Applicants are not expected to remain available or on call at all times. Some Saturday availability is needed to accommodate individuals who receive services or participate in community outings on weekends. What We Offer Competitive pay of $22-$25 per hour , based on experience Flexible, part-time scheduling arranged around instructor and client availability Service opportunities Monday through Saturday Mileage reimbursement for approved travel between scheduled clients and during client community outings Meaningful, one-on-one work that directly supports greater independence The ability to work independently while remaining part of a supportive team Electronic documentation and timekeeping for convenient submission of service notes and hours About the Position Independent Living Skills Instructors work one-on-one with adults with developmental disabilities to help them achieve goals identified in their Individual Program Plans. This position focuses on teaching, coaching, and encouraging individuals—not simply completing tasks for them.
Areas of support may include:
Cooking, meal planning, and grocery shopping Budgeting and money-management skills Household organization and maintenance Scheduling and attending appointments Learning to navigate public transportation Accessing Social Security, housing, and other community resources Developing social, communication, and personal-safety skills Participating in community activities and outings Working toward other individualized independent-living goals Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide individualized training and support based on each person's Individual Program Plan goals. Teach daily living, social, safety, and community-access skills. Support individuals with cooking, shopping, budgeting, household maintenance, appointments, transportation training, and other identified needs. Help individuals locate and access public transportation and community resources. Transport individuals in the instructor's personal vehicle when required. Follow all driving, automobile insurance, and client-safety requirements. Document each person's progress and the services provided using the agency's electronic documentation system. Record working hours through the agency's electronic timekeeping system. Submit service notes and time records accurately and by established deadlines. Communicate with supervisors regarding client progress, scheduling changes, concerns, and incidents. Provide input during Individual Program Plan and interdisciplinary team meetings. Complete Special Incident Reports when required. Attend mandatory staff meetings and trainings. Respect each individual's rights, choices, privacy, dignity, and independence. Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and ensure client health and safety. Perform other duties related to each individual's approved goals and support needs. Qualifications Must be at least 21 years old. High school diploma or equivalent required. At least one year of caregiving, direct support, social services, behavioral health, or Independent Living Skills experience with adults with developmental disabilities is preferred. Must have a valid driver's license. Must have reliable personal transportation, current automobile insurance, and an acceptable driving record. Must be willing and able to use a personal vehicle to transport clients when necessary. Must be comfortable working independently in clients' homes and throughout the community. Must have access to a smartphone and email for communication, electronic documentation, and timekeeping. Must obtain CPR and First Aid certification within 60 days of hire. Must be dependable, patient, professional, and able to communicate effectively. Must have some Saturday availability based on assigned client schedules and planned community outings.
