Job Description

The Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation is seeking a caring, dependable, and engaging Educational Youth Development Professional to support youth in our afterschool program. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys helping students learn, build confidence, complete homework, and participate in fun educational enrichment activities.
Schedule:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday:
1:30-6:00 p.m.
Wednesday:
12:30-6:00 p.m. What You'll Do Support tutoring, homework assistance, literacy, STEAM, and educational enrichment activities. Facilitate structured homework and learning time. Actively supervise youth and maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing environment. Use positive reinforcement and redirection to support student behavior. Assist with participant arrival, dismissal, snack/mealtimes, field trips, and program transitions. Help prepare and maintain classroom spaces, materials, and supplies. Build positive relationships with youth, families, and fellow staff. Serve as a positive role model and mentor. Participate in required training, professional development, and staff meetings. Those duties retain the academic emphasis of the official Educational YDP position without putting the entire JD into the advertisement. What We're Looking For High school diploma or GED required. At least 1 year of experience working with children or youth, paid or volunteer. Experience with tutoring, homework assistance, classroom support, STEAM, literacy, or other academic enrichment preferred. Ability to effectively engage, supervise, and positively redirect school-age youth. Dependable and available to work the scheduled afterschool hours. Strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills. Mandated Reporter and CPR/First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening and required background checks. This is an active youth-development position. Candidates should be comfortable spending much of the program day standing, moving between activities, actively engaging with youth, and responding quickly when needed.
Pay:
From $16.00 per hour Expected hours: No more than 25.0 per week
