ACE is at the forefront of preparing adult students for the modern workforce, with a strong focus on skilled trades and programs in Business and Information Technology, Health and Medical, Adult ESOL, and Apprenticeships. New classes and programs are added regularly, giving instructors and students ongoing opportunities to engage in current, industry-relevant education. Role Description The Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Instructor is a part-time, on-site role based in Springfield, VA. The instructor will plan and deliver engaging HVAC instruction to adult learners, using a mix of lecture, demonstration, and hands-on lab activities. Daily responsibilities include preparing lesson plans aligned with program outcomes, teaching core HVAC concepts and safety practices, and guiding learners through practical troubleshooting and repair exercises. The role involves assessing student progress, providing feedback, maintaining accurate records, and collaborating with program staff to ensure curriculum relevance and alignment with industry standards. The instructor will also help foster an inclusive, supportive classroom environment and may participate in program development, outreach, and continuous improvement initiatives. Qualifications Strong technical expertise in HVAC systems, including installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and safety best practices. Experience in teaching, training, or instructing adult learners, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly and accessibly. Curriculum development skills to design, update, and refine course materials, lesson plans, and assessments. Knowledge of related trades such as basic plumbing as they connect to HVAC systems and building services. Effective communication and classroom management skills, with a commitment to inclusive, learner-centered instruction. Relevant industry certifications or licenses in HVAC (e.g., EPA 608, journeyman/master-level credentials) strongly preferred. Previous experience in workforce development, vocational education, or community college/adult education settings is beneficial. High school diploma or equivalent required; postsecondary training or technical school credential in HVAC or a related field preferred.
