Edge & Flow Studio is a men's grooming studio on PCH in Corona del Mar, and we hire assistants the way we hire stylists: as future partners, not helpers. If you're newly licensed, or licensed and want to master men's cutting before you take a chair, this is the on-ramp. One thing California law settles for us: only a licensed cosmetologist, barber or hairstylist, or a Board-registered apprentice, may shampoo or prep a guest, so this role needs an active license or a current apprentice license. Still in school? Apply anyway and we'll talk about the apprenticeship route under a licensed trainer here. The pay, no fine print: $20 to $24 an hour guaranteed base for every hour you're here. Tips when guests tip you directly, plus voluntary tip-shares from our stylists. Monthly team bonus of 4% to 13% of your base wages whenever the studio hits its revenue goal. A written path:

after six months on the floor and a pass on our practical bar, you move to a stylist chair at $33.80 an hour ($34.80 from January 1, 2027) plus tips, 10% retail commission and the same team bonus. It's in the handbook and in your agreement, not a promise in the hallway. What you'll do: Shampoo, hot towel, scalp treatments and our Breathe add-on; prep and turn stations; keep the floor, tools and shelf spotless. Greet, book and check out guests from your phone. There's no front desk; we all do it. Learn the consultation and the clean-product shelf (Areté, Jack Henry, Pantry Products) so you can teach a guest one thing about their hair. Shadow a working stylist every day and cut on models during education time. Who we're looking for: An active California cosmetology, barber or hairstylist license, or a current Board apprentice license (California requires one to shampoo or prep a guest). Finishing school? Apply anyway and ask about the apprenticeship route. Reliable, on time, calm with a full book, and a good listener. That's the whole job at first. Wants a chair in this studio, not just a job. Available Saturdays plus two or three weekdays.
