About Grace Farm & Gardens Grace Farm & Gardens is a two-acre diversified farm in Jefferson County, Colorado, producing cut flowers and mixed vegetables, raising a variety of rare-breed farm animals, and operating an on-site farmers market. The farm doubles as an agritourism destination and serves as a supported employment and prevocational training site for adults with support needs, in partnership with the Developmental Disabilities Resource Center (DDRC). Every role on the farm contributes to both a working agricultural operation and a welcoming, mission-driven community workplace. Position Summary The Animal Care Program Lead provides daily care for the farm's animal program, which features rare and specialty breeds including Ayam Cemani chickens, laying hens, rare-color Lionhead and Holland Lop rabbits, miniature cows, miniature horses, and mini goats. This role keeps every animal healthy, safe, and well-cared-for, maintains clean and secure housing, and supports positive animal interactions for agritourism visitors and supported employees. Key Responsibilities Provide daily feeding, watering, and welfare checks for poultry, rabbits, miniature cattle, miniature horses, and mini goats Clean and maintain coops, hutches, stalls, pens, and pastures; manage bedding, manure, and fencing upkeep Monitor animal health and body condition; recognize early signs of illness or injury and report concerns to farm leadership promptly Administer routine care such as hoof checks, grooming, parasite prevention, and basic first aid as directed Collect, clean, and record eggs for the on-site farmers market Maintain simple animal care logs (feed, health observations, treatments, breeding notes) Support safe, supervised animal interactions for agritourism visitors and involve supported employees in appropriate daily care tasks Maintain biosecurity practices and keep feed storage areas clean, organized, and rodent-safe Qualifications Hands-on experience caring for livestock and/or poultry; experience with equines, goats, or rabbits is a plus Calm, confident, and gentle animal handling skills Dependable and consistent — animals are cared for every day, in all weather Observant and detail-oriented, with good judgment about when to escalate a health concern Patient, encouraging communicator comfortable guiding crew members of all abilities and interacting with farm visitors Working Alongside Our Crew Grace Farm & Gardens is a supported employment site. This position works alongside adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who participate in farm work through our DDRC partnership and prevocational programming. The ideal candidate is patient, encouraging, and comfortable modeling tasks, offering clear step-by-step direction, and celebrating progress. Prior experience in supported employment, special education, or human services is a plus but not required — a respectful, inclusive attitude is essential. Schedule & Physical Requirements Part-time, approximately ___ hours per week; schedule flexible within farm operating hours and seasonal needs Work is performed outdoors and in unheated farm structures in all weather conditions Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds; frequent bending, kneeling, squatting, and standing for extended periods Some weekend availability preferred during peak season and farmers market days Compensation $19-$21 per hour, based on experience.
