Job Description

Join us in caring for pets in search of a new home. Provide loving care and attention to cats and dogs who have arrived at Second Chance as strays or had to be surrendered by their family. We are looking for a people person who will work closely with adopters to find just the right fit and support them in taking in a new family, and who can compassionately help pet owners through the painful process of giving up their animals.
Schedule:
8:30am to 5:00pm with a 30-minute, unpaid lunch break. Part-time, with one scheduled day per week with the ability to pickup extra shifts as needed.
Responsibilities:
Daily, thorough cleaning of all animal areas, including inside/outside runs, cat areas, floors, dishes, bedding, etc. Disease management is essential to the well-being of all animals in our care. Accurately enter pet and adopter records into pet care database. (ShelterLuv) Willingness to work with the staff veterinarian and technicians to learn basic veterinary wellness care for animals, apply topical medications, give oral medications, and administer vaccines. Accurately enter vet records in the animal database. Working closely in a team setting as well as supporting customer support with phone calls, visitors, adopters, and volunteers. Provide training and enrichment determined appropriate for each animal daily. Socialize and groom the animals. Exercise dogs - walking, hiking, biking and playing. Assess the temperament of the animals to facilitate finding the best possible placement for each individual animal. Promote a humane, compassionate and caring attitude toward all animals and people.
Skills:
Attention to detail and the ability to follow cleaning protocols is required. Ability to communicate well with people in a non-judgmental way. Willingness to learn animal handling and basic wellness care Previous animal handling experience a plus
