East Hartford, CT Job Details Part-time From $19 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications Computer operation Teamwork Customer service Computer literacy Driver's License Task assignment Veterinary technician experience Full Job Description Position Summary The Part-Time Cat Shelter Veterinary Assistant/Technician provides routine and minor medical care to shelter cats and supports the overall health and well-being of animals in our care. This position works closely with the Shelter Veterinarian and shelter leadership to ensure medical needs are addressed efficiently, accurately, and compassionately. Sunday shifts include working directly with the Shelter Veterinarian and helping lead the day's medical workflow, priorities, and schedule. The position reports to the Lead Vet Tech and collaborates with the Shelter Director, Cat Leadership Team, staff, volunteers, and Board of Directors in support of the organization's mission and goals. • : Tuesdays 5-9 PM every other Friday 5-9 PM every other Sunday 9 AM - 4 PM

•flexibility to work varying shifts and adjust hours. Key Responsibilities Provide routine and minor medical care to shelter cats under the direction of the Shelter Veterinarian and Lead Vet Tech. Assist with examinations, treatments, vaccinations, and medical procedures. Perform blood draws and administers subcutaneous fluids and injections. Monitor cats for illness, injury, behavioral changes, and other medical concerns. Maintain accurate and timely written and electronic medical records. Confidently and safely handle cats with a variety of temperaments, including fearful or challenging cats. On Sundays, coordinate medical workflows, prioritize tasks, and maintain the day's schedule in collaboration with the Shelter Veterinarian. Communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, POA employees, and members of the public. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe medical work environment. Follow shelter policies, medical protocols, and standards of humane animal care. Ability to work a flexible schedule. Qualifications Minimum two (2) years of Veterinary Technician experience (certified or non-certified), or relevant animal shelter experience with transferable skills. Knowledge of feline behavior, vaccinations and vaccine schedules, commonly used medications, and veterinary terminology. Demonstrated ability to perform blood draws and administer subcutaneous fluids and injections. Strong computer skills. Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills. Strong attention to detail and accurate recordkeeping. Ability to multitask, prioritize, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. Ability to remain calm and effective under stressful conditions. Demonstrated commitment to the humane treatment and welfare of animals. Valid Connecticut Driver's License. The position requires the ability to work effectively in stressful and sometimes emotionally challenging situations, including animal illness, injury, death, and euthanasia. The successful candidate must be able to process information quickly and accurately, prioritize competing needs, delegate tasks when appropriate, and maintain professionalism and compassion at all times.
