About Neion Bio Neion Bio is harnessing nature's best molecular factory, the chicken egg, to make medicine affordable, accessible, and resilient. We turn farms into medicine factories using cutting edge genetic engineering and stem cell technology. These "living bioreactors" are fully autonomous 3D biomolecular printers that operate on existing industrial-scale infrastructure. Our platform can rapidly and scalably produce almost any protein, provide national resilience to drug shortages and de-risk complex supply chains, and ultimately take advantage of novel biological environments to solve unmet medical needs. Role Summary:
We are seeking an adaptable and organized Avian Caretaker who is motivated by the ethical care of animals and will contribute to the growth of Neion's research program. This role involves hands-on care and handling of chickens throughout their lifecycle, including hatching and breeding, as well as all aspects of husbandry in a research setting, from feeding to cleaning. This position requires one weekend day shift, as part of a 5-day work schedule, to ensure continuity of care.
Key Responsibilities:
Aviculture :
Must be comfortable safely handling chickens in a research setting. Requires working with small flocks at all stages of development from egg collection, incubation and the successful hatching and growth of chicks and chickens
Biosecurity :
Must be comfortable showering into the facility, and working in full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and observing strict standard operating protocols (SOPs) to protect avian health
General Husbandry:
Will require daily husbandry, including operating cage wash, cleaning bedding, replacing feed and water, and providing enrichments. This will entail regular heavy lifting.
Culture of Care :
Contribute to ensuring the health and environmental, nutritional and social enrichment of our flocks
Record Keeping :
Maintain timely and accurate animal records
Regulatory Compliance :
Help to ensure that research areas and records meet and exceed IACUC inspection compliance Requirements 2+ years experience providing hands-on animal care in a research, small animal clinical, farm or zoological setting is critical, including direct hands-on avian experience Prior experience incubating and hatching eggs and raising chickens would be beneficial Undergraduate or an associate degree in biological sciences or related fields, or equivalent industry experience This position requires showering into the facility, working in PPE for up to 3 hours at a time, and frequently moving equipment up to 50 lbs. Extreme attention to detail is critical, as well as strict compliance with SOPs and are followed and documented Ability to operate with quiet confidence and competence, individually and as part of a team to promote a culture of care Why Neion Bio? Compensation:
base salary is expected to be $55K-$65K depending on experience, with additional bonus compensation, equity compensation, and benefits including health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, 401(k), and relocation support.
