Job Description

General description Works under the direction of the Owners (member/mangers of The Westman Stables LLC). Physical strength, a sense of personal responsibility, and attention to detail are quality aspects of a successful equine groom.
MUST BE ABLE TO WORK OUTSIDE DURING SUMMER HEAT AND WINTER COLD. MUST HAVE RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION TO INCLUDE SUITABLE TRANSPORTATION TO GET TO WORK DURING SNOWY AND OTHER WINTER CONDITIONS.

Duties Hours:
SPLIT SHIFT AM
feeding - early (7:00 AM start) through noon, depending on weather and other conditions; PM feeding - afternoon (4:00 PM) start through early evening, depending on weather and other conditions. Coordinating each horse's feeding and turnout plan with the Owner Cleaning stalls and mare motels daily and cleaning turnout paddocks at least weekly Providing hay, feed, supplements, and fresh water according to each horse's schedule Clearing ice from water in winter Grooming horses daily Removing botfly eggs as needed Applying fly repellant as needed Turning horses into pasture or turnout paddocks daily as weather permits Coordinating each horse's feeding and turnout plan with the Owner Maintaining barn/mare motel, hay and feeding areas; tack room; and other work areas - sweeping, washing, and general cleaning as needed Cleaning of buckets and tubs used for feeding and watering daily Cleaning all horse tack and equipment as needed Under direction of the Owner, administer medications and appropriate wound care/bandaging Under direction of the Owner, first aid delivery to horse(s) Contacts veterinarian in an emergency if unable to reach the Owner Handling horse(s) for veterinarian farrier, or other care provider during medical or other treatment Loading and unloading horses from trailer as needed Completing documentation daily tasks via provided documentation tools Completing bi-weekly timekeeping Completes ongoing education as assigned Following all Sunset Ranch barn rules and all The Westman Stables LLC policies and procedures Maintaining open and effective communication with the Owners, Sunset Ranch Owners and other members of the Ranch team Coordinating with the Owner on medications, supplements and equipment needs Putting on horse blankets, fly sheets, fly masks, fly boots, grazing muzzles etc. as needed Other duties as assigned
Pay:
From $13.00 per hour
