Weekends Position Overview We are looking for a dependable, hardworking, and attentive Weekend Farm Hand / Animal Care Assistant to help care for our farm and animals. This position is responsible for completing daily animal-care tasks, maintaining clean and safe animal areas, and closely monitoring the health and well-being of the animals. Our farm is home to Highland cows, goats, ducks, chickens, cats, and a dog, so comfort around a variety of farm animals is important. Prior farm experience is preferred. We are looking for someone eager to learn, and comfortable working with animals. Daily Responsibilities Morning Farm Routine Feed all animals according to established feeding instructions Collect eggs Check and refill water for all animals Let animals out for the day Check on all animals and make sure everyone is accounted for Observe animals for signs of illness, injury, or unusual behavior Complete general farm upkeep, including leaf blowing and other assigned chores Evening Farm Routine Put ducks and chickens safely back into their coops and lock them in for the night Make sure Hank, the dog, and the cows are safely put away Feed the dog and cows as instructed Check goat water and make sure all animals have what they need for the night Confirm that all animals are safe and accounted for before leaving Animal Care Responsibilities Poultry — Chickens & Ducks Let birds out of their coops each morning and secure them at night Collect eggs daily Refill feed and change water Monitor for signs of illness or distress Clean coops and runs weekly Perform monthly deep cleaning Goats Provide daily pellets, hay, and fresh water Clean the goat deck daily Clean shelters weekly Monitor herd health and report any concerns Highland Cows Feed, water, and brush daily Assist with halter training Monitor for signs of illness or injury Clean the lean-to shelter weekly Dog Feed and provide fresh water daily Clean the doghouse regularly Administer monthly medication as instructed Cats Feed daily Refresh water Administer medication as needed Qualifications & Expectations Dependable and punctual, especially for scheduled morning and evening animal-care routines Comfortable working independently and completing tasks without constant supervision Strong attention to detail Able to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively Willingness to follow directions and established animal-care routines Comfortable working around farm animals or willing and able to become comfortable with them Able to recognize and promptly report concerns regarding animal health, safety, or behavior Responsible, observant, and willing to perform routine cleaning and farm-maintenance tasks Animals on the Farm Highland cows Goats Ducks Chickens Cats Dog Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is someone who is reliable, observant, hardworking, and genuinely comfortable caring for animals. This position requires someone who understands that consistent daily care is essential to animal health and well-being. A successful farm hand will take pride in keeping the animals safe, healthy, fed, and cared for while maintaining a clean and orderly farm environment. Physical Requirements Ability to safely lift 50+ pounds Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and other elements Ability to perform physically demanding work, including frequent stooping, bending, twisting, reaching, squatting, walking, and standing throughout the workday.
