The Training Kennel Technician plays a vital role in maintaining the health, well-being, and overall quality of life for our canines in training. This position involves implementing proper handling and training techniques, ensuring a safe and clean environment, and offering enriching experiences for the dogs under our care. Responsibilities:
- Regularly clean and disinfect surfaces, crates, and common areas to prevent the spread of illness and maintain cleanliness.
- Provide essential care, including feeding, medicating, and ensuring access to clean and fresh water for all dogs.
- Attend to individual dietary and medical needs based on instructions provided by the canine care manager.
- Perform weekly health checks on each dog, documenting any changes in condition or behavior.
- Groom dogs daily, including brushing, bathing, ear cleaning/plucking, teeth brushing, and nail trimming.
- Maintain the kennel facility with meticulous attention, ensuring a safe, clean, and healthy environment for both dogs and staff.
- Implement Canine Support Teams' commands, leash etiquette and training protocols during interactions with all dogs.
- Supervise playtime and provide mental and physical enrichment activities to enhance the dogs' quality of life.
- Regularly remove waste, fill holes, and conduct hazard checks in the outdoor kennel grounds to create a safe outdoor environment.
- Update digital records and document accurate information pertaining to the dog's care and training.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in canine training, dog care, veterinary assistance, or related field preferred.
- A willingness to learn specific handling and training techniques.
- Knowledge of canine behavior, basic health, and grooming practices.
- Ability to handle dogs of all sizes and temperaments with patience and confidence.
- Strong attention to detail, cleanliness, and hygiene.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- Physical fitness to perform tasks involving lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Compassion for animals and a commitment to their well-being.
- Willingness to learn and follow established Canine Support Teams handling, training, and care protocols.
